Publication Metadata only Health and time allocated to market and household work in Turkey(2022-01-01) DÜZGÜN ÖNCEL, BURCU; Düzgün Öncel B.I examine the association between health and time allocation to market work and household work by using Turkish Time Use Survey in 2014. I define household work as the sum of time devoted to non-market work and leisure. In supplement to previous studies on the subject regarding Turkey, I consider two new aspects. One of these aspects I assess is the intertemporal component of time allocation decisions. The other aspect I cover is the potential selection bias of health status in time allocation decisions. For the former purpose, I focus on non-student, non-retired individuals. For the latter, I apply propensity score matching (PSM). Examining these two aspects, I find that as health improves, time devoted to market work significantly rises and time devoted to leisure falls for both males and females in this group. We contribute to previous studies regarding Turkey on two aspects. First, we focus on the cyclical and structural components that capture both labour demand and supply conditions, respectively. Second, we control for sample selection bias by applying a recursive bivariate model. We find that involuntary part-time employment is more common among males and moves with unemployment rate. F.In this study, we examine the association between firms’ innovation process and their product quality improvement and new product introduction strategies. Our focus is on the distinction between firms’ product quality improvement and variety extension objectives. We use data from Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) Innovation Survey between the years 2014 and 2016. According to the descriptive results, number of firms report that product quality as very important is greater than the firms report that product variety. Logit estimations results show that majority of the product variety objective and technology level indicators are significant and positively related with probability of product innovation. There is also a positive relationship between probability of product innovation and patent applications for small and medium sized firms. This holds true for individuals with and without disabilities in different education groups. This study explores the difference in labor market outcomes of males and females with disabilities across education groups. By using World Health Organization’s definition of disability and TURKSTAT Health Survey 2019, I decompose how much of employment inequality by education can be attributed to disparities in disability status among genders. The results present that probability of being out of labor force is higher for disabled individuals both for males and females and this probability decreases with education. Decomposition results also show that probability of employment is lower for individuals with severe disabilities in all education groups. The association between education and inequality in employment with respect to disability status is more profound for females.
