Publication Open Access Measurement of temperature and displacement with NiTi actuators under certain electrical conditions(JVE INT LTD, 2021-06-30) TOPTAŞ, ERSİN; Toptas, Ersin; Celebi, Mehmet Fatih; Ersoy, SezginIn this study, various mechanical behaviors of a shape memory alloy, depending on different thermal and electrical conditions to be used in areas such as biomedical, aerospace and aeronautics. Temperature changes and length change rates under different electrical current values of a shape memory alloy named nickel titanium, or nitinol (NiTi) has been observed. It has been seen that a 0.3 mm diameter wire can generate a force of 25 N while the material extends its linear measurement with a rate of 3.7 mm/s. It is observed that, under diverse constant electrical current values, the displacement and temperature relations of the nickel titanium wire is varying. It has empirically been seen that the nickel titanium alloy actuators are advantageous than their alternatives in terms of the generated strength to weight ratio and shape memory alloy materials can be used as actuators in industrial and biomedical applications.Publication Open Access Vibration analysis of screw-fed systems used in additive manufacturing technology(2022-06-13) ERSOY, SEZGİN; Ersoy S., Kaba M., Ekinli B.Additive manufacturing technology has become quite widespread and produces solutions in many areas. Although it is much more advantageous than machining, this technology continues to be developed every day to increase productivity. In additive production systems with different production processes, it may be necessary to improve the system in order to increase the quality of the products that are desired to increase the sensitivity. In this study, it is aimed to determine the vibration behavior of the screw used in the screw extruder method, which will eliminate the errors caused by the continuous filament technology used in FDM technology in layered production. This application will be developed with Java in the Android Studio environment and image processing will be done using the OpenCV Library. Detection of a note will be memorized by calculating the value and duration of the note. After these sounds, the frequency values of the notes will be available on the phone.Publication Open Access Air leakage test system for product without atmosphere air connection(2023-06-01) ERSOY, SEZGİN; Temiz I., Feyzioğlu A., Çelebi M. F., Ersoy S.With the air leakage test methods, the leakage tests of the products that are required to be leakproof are carried out. This leakage test starts with placing the product on a fixture. The in-ternal pressure is increased by filling compressed air into the product placed in the Fixture. The product is filled with compressed air up to a previously calculated test pressure value. After the test pressure value is reached for the desired product, the air filling process is completed, and the stabilization period begins. At the end of this period, information about the leakage of the product is obtained, depending on whether there is a change in the internal pressure of the product. In order to fill the product with compressed air, there must be an air hole on the product. Products without this air hole cannot be tested with these methods. With the new method we will develop, it will be possible to test the leakage of closed products without atmosphere-air connection.Publication Open Access The effect of a new teaching methodology on learning performances of automotive - mechatronics students(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2010) KÜÇÜK, HALUK; Ersoy, Sezgin; Kucuk, Haluk; Uzunboylu, HIn this study a new methodology for teaching of Automotive Mechatronics course is proposed. The students who have taken the course were divided into two groups: the first, for classical mode of teaching and the other for the new model of instruction. The performance of the students were measured by pre-test and post-test. The results show that, handing out the class material beforehand and having the students learn by practicing in the laboratory, increase the students' interest and success when compared to those being taught the theory, in class and having completed the experiments in the lab afterwards. All rights reserved.Publication Open Access Design and Analysis Comparison of Surface Acoustic Wave-Based Sensors for Fabrication Using Additive Manufacturing(HINDAWI LTD, 2021-06-12) ERSOY, SEZGİN; Waqar, Tayyab; Ersoy, SezginSensors have become an integral part of our everyday lives by helping us converting packets of data to make important decisions. Due to this reason, researches are done constantly to improve the fabrication processes of sensors by making them more user-friendly, less time-consuming, and more cost-effective. The application of any fabrication solution that offers those advantages will have a major impact on the manufacturing of modern sensors. To address this issue, a 3D printed Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) temperature sensor is presented in this paper. The modelling and analysis of such a sensor have been performed for both aluminium and copper electrodes using COMSOL software. In total, 4 different sensing structures, 2 each for both aluminium and copper electrodes based one-port resonators, are designed and analysed for their application in temperature sensing. The resulting responses of those sensors are approximately 2.19 MHz and 424.01 MHz frequency ranges. The novelty lies in the possibility of mass-producing such a sensor using additive manufacturing will have a direct impact in the areas where conventional electronics cannot be utilized.Publication Open Access Computational model for the nonlinear dynamic response of MEMS-based micromirror(2022-08-25) ERSOY, SEZGİN; Ertuğrul İ., Ersoy S., Ragulskis M.In this study, it is aimed to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of micromirror based on Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and to examine the nonlinear and dynamic responses of this system. Micromirror devices are indispensable, especially for optical systems and form the basis of them. In this work, dynamic and nonlinear responses of micromirror with 4 symmetric arms and one reflective surface were investigated. During the design and modeling, it is assumed that the upper and lower layers of the reflective surface have equal tensile and compressive stresses. The analysis of the system was obtained by applying a force of up to 30 GPa Prestressed on the reflective surface. The design and FEA of the micromirror system were made with the Comsol Multiphysics program. The nonlinear response of the analysis was carried out with the MATLAB program. This model, which has the most basic design of micromirror structures used in optical systems, is thought to be a source for a good examination of the nonlinear dynamic model and for understanding more complex structures.Publication Open Access Data Analysis for Predictive Maintenance of Servo Motors(HINDAWI LTD, 2020-09-11) ATAKÖK, GÜRCAN; Girit, Oguz; Atakok, Gurcan; Ersoy, SezginVibration and temperature data of a servo motor are analyzed with PLC which is widely used in the industry. With this system, power supply can be detected on the servo motors. In this way, undesirable situations such as disruptions in production and productivity loss can be prevented from occurring. It is an important problem for businesses to detect malfunctions that may occur in servo motor dysfunction. Previously, methods such as ultrasonic sound measurements, thermal cameras, endoscopy equipment, and energy analysis have been used and discussed in the literature. Our study offers a PLC-based vibration and temperature measurement system designed as a solution of this problem. In this system, vibration and temperature measurements were made while the servo motor was kept running. These measurements were measured with or without load, considering the operating ranges of the servo motor, and the compatibility of the data was evaluated.Publication Open Access Investigation of time-based pressure control for microfluidics chip design(2023-03-01) TOPTAŞ, ERSİN; ERSOY, SEZGİN; ATAKÖK, GÜRCAN; Ersoy S., Atakök G., Khorsandi D., Toptaş E.The emergence of the microfluidic chip was a game-changer in microbiological analysis platforms. This technology, by combining physics, chemistry, biology, and computing, helps researchers to obtain precise results in a shorter time. However, it requires more advancements in order to lessen its limitations. This study presents the design, modelling, and microbiological analysis of a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) based microfluidic chip. Three different microfluidic chips have been developed during the design process. These chips have different inlet channels and one outlet channel. The modelling process was carried out with Multiphysics Software. Pressure and velocity data in micron-sized channels were checked for each system. The flow directions of the fluids in the inlet and outlet channels were observed according to the pressure change. As a result of the analysis, the highest velocity was found in the microfluidic chip with three inlet channels. In comparison, the highest pressure was measured in the microfluidic chip with four inlet channels. These values are 2.36 x10-17 m/s and 13.5 Pa, respectively. The pressure values of the 4 and 5-channel microfluidic chips were very close. The results showed that as the number of inlet channels increased, the pressure value in the microfluidic chip increased, but the velocity value decreased.Publication Open Access
