Abstract
Maternal sigara maruziyeti ve yenidoğan işitme tarama testi arasında anlamlı düzeyde ilişki bulunamamıştır.--------------------Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of maternal smoking exposure on neonatal anthropometric measurements and neonatal hearing function.Materials and Methods: A descriptive study. Between the dates of 01.06.2018-01.12.2018, 150 mothers and term neonates were examined within the scope of the study. Postpartum socio-demographic data, anthropometric measurements and hearing screening test results were evaluated according to maternal cigarette exposure. Statistical significance was accepted as p <0.05.Findings: The mean birth weight of the babies without maternal smoking exposure was 3571.62 ± 399.19 g, mean height was 50.86 ± 1.54 cm and head circumference was 35.20 ± 1.01 cm. The mean birth weight of the babies with maternal cigarette exposure was 3164.76 ± 375.72 g, the mean height was 49.25 ± 1.92 cm, and the head circumference was 34.31 ± 1.35 cm. The difference between the groups was statistically significant (p <0.001). 90.7% of the infants who passed the first-line test were included in the hearing screening for babies and 9.3% remained. 71.4% of the mothers of the babies who were left out of the hearing test smoked during pregnancy and 28.6% were non-smokers.Conclusions: Maternal smoking exposure has a negative effect on neonatal anthropometric measurements. No significant relationship was found between maternal cigarette exposure and neonatal hearing screening test.
