[Subjects and Methods] The study included 43 healthy university students, 15 females (34.88%) and 28 males (65.12%), attending the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Marmara University. The age of the participants ranged from 19 to 27 (mean age 21.2 +/- 1.7 years). Strength, balance with eyes open, balance with eyes closed and flexibility were evaluated under four different conditions of wearing holographic EFX (R), PWX (R) and placebo wristbands, and no wristband. [Results] In evaluations of strength, balance with eyes are open, balance with eyes closed and flexibility, a significant difference was observed in favor of the placebo wristband compared to the PWX (R) wristband. For the other tests, holographic wristbands had no effect on strength, flexibility or balance with eyes closed. In this study, we compared the effects of intermittent pneumatic compression along with conventional treatment with cold-pack treatment along with conventional treatment on clinical outcomes in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods. Eighty-nine patients with knee osteoarthritis participated in this study. One group received ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, electrical stimulation, exercise, and cold packs. The second group received ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, electrical stimulation, exercise, and intermittent pneumatic compression. Range of motion, muscle strength, knee swelling, pain intensity, and functional status were measured at baseline and 4th week. Results. We found significant improvements in range of motion, muscle strength, pain intensity, and functional status after the treatment in both groups (p<0.05). When comparing the effects of these two treatment programs, it was observed that the intermittent pneumatic compression treatment group had a better outcome in terms of knee swelling (p=0.028). Conclusions. According to the results, we could report that intermittent pneumatic compression therapy in addition to conventional treatment has significant positive effects on clinical outcomes in patients with knee osteoarthritis. We could also report that intermittent pneumatic compression therapy along with conventional treatment is superior to cold-pack therapy along with conventional treatment in terms of knee swelling in patients with knee osteoarthritis. MarBES is a device consisting of 9 led scales and 4 pressure sensor systems developed to evaluate and improve balance and coordination as a TÜBİTAK 3001 project. Weight data is estimated from pressure sensors located in 4 different corners and a score is calculated with computer software for the individual\"s center of gravity (Centre of pressure X, Y) and the amount of deviation from the center for each axis.. The aim of this study is to examine the test-retest reliability of the MarBES device. Methods: Double-leg and single-leg (eyes open-closed) tests were applied to healthy young adult participants for balance testing on the MarBES device. Weight transfer to the target surface was measured for assessment of the participants coordination performance. Participants rested for 10 minutes and all measurements were repeated by the same evaluator. The obtained data were recorded and the reliability of the measurements was evaluated with Pearson correlation analysis. Results: A total of 33 healthy young individuals (24 F; 9 M) with a mean age of 21±0.96 years were included in the study. In the correlation analysis, there was a strong correlation in all measurement parameters of the MarBES device except for X axis measurements of right leg (eyes open) and double leg eyes closed (p<0.005). Conclusion: Objective evaluation of balance and coordination parameters is very important in rehabilitation. Resulde of the study showed that the MarBES device developed by the researchers is a reliable method for the evaluation of balance and coordination in healthy young individuals. A sociodemographic data form was filled by all participants. Physical activity levels of the students were evaluatedusing the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Core endurance was measured using anterior and right/left plank tests.Results: The average anterior plank test period of the participants was 77.0±43.8 sec. and the average lateral plank test period was 43.9±28.0 sec.We found that 14.8% (n=46) of the participants were inactive, 48.1% (n=149) were minimally active, and 37.1% (n=115) were very active,according to the IPAQ. According to the IPAQ data, vigorous physical activity, moderate physical activity, and walking variables in maleparticipants were significantly higher than female participants (p<0.05). Plank test periods (anterior and lateral) of participant which have vigorousand moderate physical activity was significantly higher (p<0.05).Conclusion: There was no statistically significant relationship between core endurance and physical activity level. According to this study, physicalactivity is not influenced by core endurance. Particularly, in order to protect or increase the endurance of the core muscles, which have an importantrole in the prevention of mechanical lumbar problems, it was thought that only physical exercises would not be sufficient and it should be performedspecial exercises for these musclesPublication Open Access The effectiveness of physical exercise in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis: a systematic review(2022-12-01) SARI, ZÜBEYİR; ÖZDEN F., Tumturk I., Yuvakgil Z., SARI Z.Background To our knowledge, no other systematic review comprehensively demonstrated the effectiveness of exercise and conventional physiotherapy in lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Aims The purpose of the present systematic review was to provide a comprehensive review of exercise therapy on LSS. Methods A literature search was carried out in the following databases on October 2021: PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science (WoS) database. The study quality assessment was independently determined according to the PEDro scores by two reviewers. A narrative synthesis was used to synthesize the data of the compiled studies and express their results. Results Records identified through database searching; PubMed (n = 352), Web of Science (n = 180), Science Direct (n = 2801), Cochrane Library (n = 423) and Scopus (n = 12). A total of 3768 papers were screened. Studies unrelated to the question, another study language, undesired study design, duplicate articles, undesired intervention, undesired sample feature (n = 3757) were excluded. An analysis was conducted on the full text of 11 journals. The vast majority (90.9%) of articles received a PEDro score of 6-8 (\"good\"). The mean PEDro score of the studies was 6.8 +/- 1.5 (min:1, max:8). Four of the studies (36.3%) focused on neurogenic claudication in the LSS. Other studies have focused on LSS due to various causes (e.g., degenerative). Conclusions The review results showed that supervised exercise was more effective in LSS than self-management or home exercise. In addition, core stabilization, aqua therapy or aerobic (e.g., treadmill, cycling) exercises can be advantageous in different parameters.
