Publication Open Access Nodular mucinosis of the breast: A rare entity(MARMARA UNIV, FAC MEDICINE, 2018-06-05) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Cinel, Leyla; Turkoz, Huseyin Kemal; Akbas, Gamze; Ergun, TulinNodular mucinosis of the breast (NMB) is an uncommon disease involving the nipple-areolar region. It usually presents with asymptomatic, subcutaneous masses with indolent growth in women. Here, we report a 43-year-old man presented with a subcutaneous growth on the left nipple. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of NMB. We report our patient in order to point out this rare disease and think that the recognition of this entity is important for both clinicians and pathologists.Publication Open Access Erlotinib induced ectropion following papulopustular rash(SPECJALISCI DERMATOLODZY, 2015-06-30) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Cerman, Eren; Seckin, Dilek; Kanitez, MetinBackground: Erlotinib is a targeted anti-cancer drug which acts through the inhibition of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Main observations: A 79-year-old developed bilateral ectropion after he received erlotinib treatment for lung adenocarcinoma. The ectropion completely resolved with symptomatic treatment without any modification in erlotinib therapy. Conclusions: EGFR inhibitors are frequently associated with a variety of mucocutaneous adverse events. Ocular toxicity associated with these agents has been reported rarely. We present this case to underline the importance of recognition of newly reported cutaneous and ocular adverse events of targeted therapies.Publication Open Access Public interest in dermatologic symptoms, conditions, treatments, and procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic: Insights from Google Trends(WILEY, 2021-03) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Esen-Salman, Kubra; Akin-cakici, Ozlem; Kardes, Sinan; Salman, AndacCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had substantial effect both on daily life and medical practice. Internet data have been used to analyze the trends in public interest in various medical conditions and treatments. The aim of this study is to analyze the public interest in dermatologic symptoms, conditions, treatments, and procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Google Trends was queried for a total of 120 dermatological search queries. Three periods of 2020 ([March 15-May 9], [May 10-July 4], and [July 5-October 31]) were compared with the previous 4 years (2016-2019). A significantly decreased interest in skin cancers and certain dermatologic conditions (eg, pityriasis rosea and scabies) was observed throughout the study period. Whereas a significant increase of interest in dry skin, hair shedding, oily hair, atopic dermatitis, and hand eczema was detected during the study. An initial decrease in interest was followed by a significant increase for acne, comedones, melasma, rosacea, botox, dermaroller, and peeling. The study demonstrated a significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the public interest in dermatology. The present results would help to create healthcare policies and information sources, which can meet the public demand. The reasons for the observed trends and their effect on patient outcomes might be of interest for future studies.Publication Open Access Phacomatosis pigmentokeratotica associated with unilateral toe walking due to short achilles tendon(WOLTERS KLUWER MEDKNOW PUBLICATIONS, 2020) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Yucelten, Ayse Deniz; Cakici, Ozlem Akin; Unver, OlcayPhacomatosis pigmentokeratotica (PPK) is characterized by the co-occurrence of speckled lentiginous nevus (nevus spilus) and an organoid nevus with or without extracutaneous involvement. The extracutaneous manifestations may vary widely with musculoskeletal, neurologic, ocular, and vascular findings. The PPK is also associated with an increased risk of cutaneous or extracutaneous tumors. Therefore, the patients with PPK should be followed up regularly for possible malignant transformation. Here, we report a 5-year-old boy with PPK associated with toe walking due to short Achilles tendon, which was not previously reported, to our knowledge.Publication Open Access Symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema-like eruption: An addition to the spectrum of coronavirus disease 2019-related cutaneous findings(2022-11-01) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Çakıcı Ö. A. , GUDER S., SALMAN A., Ergun T.Publication Open Access Demographic, clinical and treatment characteristics of patients with Kaposi's sarcoma: A single-center study(MARMARA UNIV, FAC MEDICINE, 2019-05-29) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Ozgen, ZuleyhaObjective: The clinical, demographic and treatment characheristics of patients with Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) are not well-detined. There is lack of consensus on treatment modalities. Thus, we aimed to define demographic, clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in our cohort of patients with KS. Patients and Methods: A retrospective cohort study was done and all patients who were followed up in our specialized cutaneous tumors outpatient clinic with a diagnosis of KS between 2006 and 2018 were included in the study. Results: A total of 25 patients were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 66 and 80% were male. The most common form of KS was classic type (80%). During a mean follow-up of 43 months, the most frequently administered treatments were cryotherapy, interferons, radiotherapy, topical imiquimod and topical timolol. Overall a complete response was observed in 9 (36%) patients. Conclusion: The clinical and demographic characteristics of our cohort match those observed in existing literature. We think that the use of local treatments such as cryotherapy, topical imiquimod should be used more frequently in patients with limited disease. Considering the efficacy of timolol in other vascular tumors, future prospective studies investigating the effects of timolol in KS are highly warranted.Publication Open Access Comment on Cling film for mobile phones to prevent cross-infection during the COVID-19 pandemic''(MOSBY-ELSEVIER, 2021-01) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Comert-Ozer, Elif; Esen-Salman, KubraPublication Open Access Atypical presentations of eosinophilic fasciitis(MEDKNOW PUBLICATIONS & MEDIA PVT LTD, 2016) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Ergun, Tulin; Seckin, Dilek; Salman, Andac; Ocak, Esra Sarac; Yucelten, Ayse Deniz; Direskeneli, Haner; Demirkesen, Cuyan; Ekinci, Gazanfer; Bayik, MahmutEosinophilic fasciitis is an uncommon connective tissue disease that may mimic and overlap with other sclerosing disorders such as morphea and lichen sclerosus. Herein, we report four patients (two men and two women, aged 16-64 yeas) with eosinophilic fasciitis. There was overlap with both morphea and lichen sclerosus in 2 patients and with morphoea alone in 1 patient. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used for diagnosis in three patients and for assessing treatment response in one patient. Eosinophilic fasciitis may co-exist with morhoea and lichen sclerosus. In view of the overlapping clinical and histopathological features of these disorders, MRI may be helful in delineating the conditions by detecting involvement of fascia.Publication Open Access Cutaneous leishmaniasis mimicking verrucous carcinoma: A case with an unusual clinical course(WOLTERS KLUWER MEDKNOW PUBLICATIONS, 2015) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Yucelten, Ayse Deniz; Seckin, Dilek; Ergun, Tulin; Demircay, ZeynepPublication Open Access Impact of psoriasis in the quality of life of children, adolescents and their families: a cross-sectional study(SOC BRASILEIRA DERMATOLOGIA, 2018-12) SALMAN, ANDAÇ; Salman, Andac; Yucelten, Ayse Deniz; Sarac, Esra; Saricam, Merve Hatun; Perdahli-Fis, NeseBACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a chronic and inflammatory disease that impairs quality of life and causes psychological symptoms. Despite the high prevalence of psoriasis in pediatric patients, studies investigating the impact of psoriasis in the quality of life of children, adolescents and families are sparse. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of psoriasis in the quality of life of children and adolescents with psoriasis and their families and to determine depression and anxiety levels of the patients. METHODS: A total of 58 patients with psoriasis aged 7-18 years (median age: 11) and a family member of each patient were included in the study. Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI), Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC) were used in the study. RESULTS: The median PASI score of the patients included in the study was 1.8. The median CDLQI and FDLQI scores in the study groups were 5 and 10, respectively. The median CDI score, STAIC-state and STAIC-trait scores of the patients were 6,28 and 325, respectively. STUDY LIMITATIONS: Lack of a control group and patient assessment of disease severity. Relatively mild disease severity of the subjects. CONCLUSIONS: Psoriasis has a negative impact in the quality of life of children, adolescents and their families, even in the presence of mild disease. Considering that impairment in quality of life may be associated with psychosocial morbidity, a combined approach with medical therapy, family counseling and quality of life assessment may be beneficial in this patient group.
