    Opinions and Expectations Related to Job Placement of Individuals with Schizophrenia: A Qualitative Study Including Both Patients and Employers

    The present study was conducted to identify the problems related to the placement of individuals with schizophrenia into jobs, the conditions allowing them to keep working and to reveal obstacles to their employment. The depth-interview technique was used for obtaining information from both patients with schizophrenia (n=25) and the human resource managers of selected companies (n=8). All interviews were recorded, transcribed and assessed using a thematic analysis approach. After the evaluation of qualitative data, the main emerging themes included the problems and suggestions of the patients, the worries of the employers about persons with schizophrenia and things that they could do about employment. The results of this study can be used to identify solutions to the problem as they were obtained from the individuals who were personally experiencing employment difficulties and from the employers, who were in a position to help solve the problems.

Kadınların ruh sağlıklarının korunup yükseltilmesi için toplum ruh sağlığı hemşireliği uygulamaları önemlidir. Bu makalede, kadının karşılaşabileceği ruhsal problemler ve toplum ruh sağlığı hemşiresinin önemi tartışılmıştır.

    Romantik ilişki istismarı, geçmişteki veya şimdiki sevgiliüzerinde güç kullanılan ve kontrol kurulan, tacize maruzbırakan ve zorlayıcı davranışları içeren bir durumdur.Romantik ilişkilerde yaşanan istismar, partner/eş istismarıolarak da anılmaktadır. İstismar ve şiddet kavramları özellikle fiziksel istismar ile fiziksel şiddet söz konusu olduğunda net olarak birbirinden ayrılamamakta, her ikisi de benzer anlamda kullanılmaktadır. Şiddet, ilişkide genelliklebiri tarafından diğerini kontrol altında tutmak için kullanılır. Romantik ilişkide şiddet duygusal, fiziksel ve cinselsaldırganlığı içermektedir. Üniversite yıllarına denk düşengeç ergenlik döneminde de romantik ilişkilerde istismarasık rastlanmaktadır. Bu derlemede üniversite öğrencileriarasında istismar yaşantısının, yakın ilişkilerdeki risklerive sonuçları, bu ilişkilerdeki şiddetin çeşitleri ve etkileri elealınarak, önleyici yolları tartışılmıştır.

    Study of validity, reliability in accordance with Turkey conditions in ego functions assessment scale

    Purpose The aim of the study is to conduct a reliability and validity study of the Ego Function Assessment (EFA) scale. Design and Methods The study was conducted with a total of 426 participants, which included 213 patients with schizophrenia and a control group of 213 normal individuals. The Individual Information Form, EFA Scale, Wonderlic Personnel Test, Adjective Check List, and Symptom Check List were used for data collection. Finding All the statistical procedures performed in the validity and reliability stages of the study show that the scale is a valid, reliable measurement tool for the Turkish culture. Practice Implications In psychiatric nursing, the use of the EFA scale can be recommended for planning individual patient care, which involves the assessment of a patient's functional adjustment on the basis of their own ego profile.

    Evaluation of a stress coping course for psychological resilience among a group of university nursing students

    Purpose This study was conducted to evaluate a stress coping course for psychological resilience among a group of university nursing students. Design and Methods This was a quantitative study that had a pretest/posttest design without a control group. Data were collected from 78 first-year nursing students using a Stress Self-assessment Checklist and the Psychological Resilience Questionnaire (PRQ). Findings A significant increase was determined in the subscales of self-perception and social resources of PRQ following the course (P <= 0.05). Practical Implications The findings emphasized that more attention should be given to the potential role of psychological resilience in dealing with the inevitable sources of stress in the education of nursing students.

    Development and Assessment of a Coping Scale for Infertile Women in Turkey

    Infertile women feel more psychological stress and pressure than their husbands, and the prevalence of anxiety and depression among them are higher. This study aimed to develop a culture-specific measurement tool to identify the strategies of infertile women in dealing with infertility-related problems. This was a scale development study. This study was carried out in three different fertility centers in the three largest cities in Turkey. The data were collected using personal information form and through the application of a Coping Scale for Infertile Women (CSIW) protocol. Ways of Coping with Stress Inventory. Cronbach's alpha, Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and Spearman` s Rank correlation analyses were used to determine the reliability of the scale. The results of explanatory factor analysis and a factor structure of the Coping Scale for Infertile Women, comprising 50 items, were examined, and the data were determined to be suitable to perform factor analysis. The internal consistency of the scale was found to be 0.880. The number of factors in the scale was 10, and the internal consistency of the factors was 0.720. The results showed that the CSIW had good reliability and validity.

    The relations between perceived stress, communication skills and psychological symptoms in oncology nurses

    Objective: This study aims to determine the correlation between perceived stress, communication skills and psychological symptoms in oncology nurses. Methods: The study was conducted in collaboration with 102 nurses working in oncology departments of hospitals in Istanbul. The data was collected through Questionnaire Form, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Communication Skills Assessment Scale (CSAS) and Brief Symptom Inventory (BSS). Descriptive statistical analysis and spearman correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: Nurses received 16.85 (SD=6.08) points from PSS, 73.34 (SD=23.28) points from CSAS, and lastly 32.68 (SD=33.13) points from BSI. 84.3% of the nurses reported experiencing communication problems with angry and agitated patients. There was a negative correlation between PSS and CSAS (r=-0.28; p<0.01). A positive correlation was found between PSS and BSI total scores (r=0.50; p<0.01) and all the other sub-dimensions. Conclusion: Improving communication skills of oncology nurses and the interventions for their perceived stress levels may have effects as promoting their own psychological health as well as decreasing communicational difficulties with the patients and their families; and thus, it may affect the quality of care.

    Sağlık Çalışanlarında Cinselliğin Değerlendirilmesi

    Amaç: Cinsellik yaşam kalitesini oluşturan, insan yaşamının en önemli parçalarından biridir. Hem en çok merakedilen hem de en az konuşulan konu durumundadır. Sağlıklıcinsel ilişkiler, ilişki içerisinde yakınlık ve sevgiye ulaşılmasına ek olarak cinsel içgüdüleri uygun şekilde doyurmayı da içerir. Cinsel doyum sağlıklı cinselliğin belirleyicilerinden birisidir. Toplumumuzdaki cinsel sorunlarınınönemli bir nedeni de cinsel konulardaki eğitimlerin yetersizliği, bilgi kaynaklarının yanlış veya yetersiz oluşu vecinsellikle ilgili yanlış inanışlardır. Çoğunluğunu hemşirelerin oluşturduğu bu çalışmanın amacı, halka danışmanlıkhizmeti veren sağlık çalışanlarında cinselliğin önemli birboyutu olan cinsel doyumun durumunu belirlemektir.Yöntem: Çalışma kesitsel ve tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır.Araştırma İstanbul ili sınırları içerisinde bulunan bir eğitimve araştırma hastanesinde 2014 yılı Nisan-Mayıs aylarıiçerisinde yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini araştırmanınyapıldığı eğitim ve araştırma hastanesindeki çalışmayakatılmaya gönüllü olan tüm sağlık personeli oluşturmuştur.Toplamda 571 kişiden çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 203kişi (82 erkek, 121 kadın) bu çalışmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Veri toplama aracı olarak, araştırmacı tarafındanhazırlanan ve toplam 15 sorudan oluşan Bilgi FormuGlombok Cinsel Doyum Ölçeği (GRCDÖ) kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Yapılan analizler sonucunda, erkeklerde kaçınma 13,45±2,02 ve erken boşalma 9,50±2,05 alt boyutlarıen üst sırada yer alırken, kadınlarda anorgazmi 6,81±1,91ve vajinismus 5,46±3,29 alt boyutları en üst sırada yeralmıştır. Cronbach alfa değerleri kadın formunda 0,66,erkek formunda ise 0,68 bulunmuştur.Sonuç: Cinsellik konusunda halkın danışmanlık için başvurduğu sağlık çalışanlarının cinsellikle ilgili daha nitelikli eğitime gereksinimi olduğu bu çalışmanın en önemli sonucudur.

    Psychosocial Problems and Coping Strategies among Turkish Women with Infertility

    Purpose: The aim of our study was to determine the factors affecting the psychosocial problems of infertile Turkish women and to identify their coping strategies. Methods: This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. We conducted in-depth interviews to examine the psychosocial problems faced by infertile Turkish women. The participants were selected in two stages. In the first stage, 118 women diagnosed with primary infertility completed a personal information form and the Fertility Problem Inventory (FPI). In the second stage, in-depth interviews (lasting 45-90 minutes) were conducted with 24 (age 20 to 41 years) infertile women randomly selected from the groups formed according to their FPI global stress levels determined in Stage 1. Content analysis was used to examine the qualitative data. Results: The results comprised nine main themes regarding the psychosocial problems encountered by women and the methods used to overcome these problems. These included the meaning attributed to being childless, negative self-concept, perceived social pressure, perceived social support, psychological symptoms, social withdrawal and isolation, spiritual coping, cherishing hope/restructuring life, and adopting traditional methods. Social pressure and stigma were common. Infertility was found to negatively affect the participants' self-perception and view of life. The women used spiritual methods for overcoming stress and avoiding society, as well as traditional fertility remedies. Conclusions: Infertile women suffer from various psychosocial problems because of infertility and they adopt emotion-focused coping methods. Copyright (C) 2015, Korean Society of Nursing Science.
