Data collection was performed using the Demographic Questionnaire, the 6th Week Assessment Form, the Inventory of Functional Status after Childbirth (IFSAC), and the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS). Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference in terms of both the EPDS scores and IFSAC scores between the groups at both the 6th week and the 6th month (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was found that antenatal training may not be effective in decreasing postpartum depression and in improving the postpartum functional status.Publication Open Access Women's health nursing in traditional and complementary medicine practices(2022-12-01) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; KARADENİZ H., CAN GÜRKAN Ö.Women’s health is the state of complete physical, psychological, social, and cultural wellbeing. Specific nursing practices for women’s health require dynamic and highly autonomous roles that require expert knowledge in order to evaluate, diagnose, and treat actual and potential health problems of individuals, families, and societies. Today, traditional and complementary medicine is practiced in this field by various methods such as acupuncture, homeopathy, ayurveda, massage, reflexology, hypnosis, aromatherapy, yoga, meditation, reiki, therapeutic touch therapy, music therapy, and dance therapy. It is seen that women’s health nurses play an active role in a wide range of these practices. In this review, the role of women’s health nurses in traditional and complementary medicine practices at the international level is discussed with legal frameworks.Publication Open Access Preconception Risk Factors and Preconception Care Practices in a Hospital Based Turkish Sample(MARMARA UNIV, INST HEALTH SCIENCES, 2021-07-09) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; Gurkan, Ozlem Can; Abbasoglu, DoneObjective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the preconception risk factors that may adversely affect pregnancy outcomes, and preconception care practices. Methods: A descriptive study was completed with 359 women. The data were collected with a questionnaire that was drawn up by the researchers. Results: Findings demonstrated that preconception risk factors were advanced age (20.6%), smoking (23.1%), existence of a chronic illness (23.6%) and being overweight (26.7%). Applied to a health institution to receive preconception care was 12.3 %. The most common preconception care practices were the use of folic acid (45.4%) and applying to the doctor for reorganization of the treatment for chronic illness (41.2%). Conclusion: The data showed that women had preconceptional risk factors and did not receive adequate preconceptional care. Women need to be provided with awareness on preconception risk factors. Policies should be developed to increase the frequency of women receiving preconception care.Publication Metadata only Effects of laughter yoga on premenstrual symptoms(2022-05-12) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; KARALİ E., CAN GÜRKAN Ö.Publication Metadata only Value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in predicting left ventricular recovery in patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy(SPRINGER WIEN, 2017) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; Gurkan, Ufuk; Akgoz, Haldun; Aksoy, Sukru; Gurkan, Ozlem Can; Osken, Altug; Dayi, Sennur Unal; Oz, Dilaver; Haci, RecepThe aim of this study was to assess the value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting left ventricular (LV) recovery in patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM). Patients with PPCM (n = 40), who were admitted to our tertiary reference hospital between 2007 and 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were followed-up for at least 12 months after the diagnosis. All patients had standard echocardiographic examination at baseline and the last follow-up visit. Recovery of LV function was defined as the presence of LV ejection fraction (EF) > 45%. Data on blood parameters were also collected at baseline. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to assess the significant predictive variables for persistent LV systolic dysfunction. Of the patients 21 (52.5%) did not recover LV function at the last follow-up visit (nonrecovery group), while 19 of the patients (47.5%) exhibited LV recovery (recovery group). The LV EF and fractional shortening (FS) were significantly lower in the nonrecovery group. The baseline LV end-diastolic diameter, LV end-systolic diameter (LVESD) and systolic pulmonary arterial pressure were significantly increased in the nonrecovery group. The NLR, CaEuroreactive protein and troponin levels were significantly higher in the nonrecovery group. In multivariate logistic regression analysis only NLR and LVESD were identified as independent predictors of persistent LV systolic dysfunction in patients with PPCM (p = 0.020 and p = 0.009 respectively). Elevated NLR and increased LVESD were independent prognostic factors in predicting persistent LV dysfunction in patients with PPCM. The NLR might assist in identifying high risk patients with PPCM.Publication Metadata only Cacao butter as prophylaxis for nipple problems: A pilot randomized controlled study(2022-09-01) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; Gurkan Ö., Abbasoglu D., Ozkan H. A., Aliogullari A.Objective: Cacao butter is a type of oil extracted from the fruit of the Theobroma Cacao plant. This study was conducted to compare the use of breast milk and cacao butter for the prevention of nipple problems in the early postpartum period.Materials and Methods: This randomized controlled study involved 72 participants, who were randomized into the cacao and mother\"s milk groups. Data were collected using Descriptive questionnaire, Nipple assessment form, and IMDAT (Amount of Urine Output, Condition of Breasts, Amount of Stool, Weight Increase and Satisfaction Status). Results: On postpartum day 10, the rates of nipple pain (11.40% cacao group versus 40.50% mother\"s milk group), rashes (14.30% cacao group versus 35.10% mother\"s milk group), and cracks (14.30% cacao group versus 43.20% mother\"s milk group) significantly reduced in the cacao group when compared with the mother\"s milk group (p < 0.05).Conclusion: The application of cacao butter to the nipples is possibly a more effective method than the application of mother\"s milk for preventing nipple pain, rashes, or cracked nipples. Cacao butter can be used prophylactically to prevent nipple problems in the early postpartum period.Publication Metadata only Sezaryen sonrası sıcak su uygulamasının hastanın konforu üzerine etkisi(2022-11-25) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; Sivri T., CAN GÜRKAN Ö.Publication Open Access Knowing emergency contraceptive methods and usage rules of university students(2022-06-01) CAN GÜRKAN, ÖZLEM; CAN GÜRKAN Ö., ŞİMŞEK ŞAHİN E., Bozkurt F.Acil kontraseptif yöntemler (AKY) istenmeyen gebeliklerin oluşumunun önlenmesi için bireylere “ikinci bir şans” sunması bakımından oldukça önemlidir.
