    The effect of psychoeducation on the social skills and problem-solving skills of female prisoners

    Objectives: This research was designed to evaluate the effect of education developed to address the psychosocial needs of women in penal institutions related to social skills and problem-solving skills. Methods: The research was conducted between April 2013 and March 2014 with women serving a sentence in 2 Type E, closed prisons in Aydın, Turkey. The data were collected using a personal information form, a brief questionnaire, the Social Skills Inventory (SSI), the Problem-Solving Inventory (PSI) and an evaluation form. Content analysis was used to assess qualitative data, including frequency and percentage distribution, and quantitative data were evaluated using a t-test for dependent groups. Results: The average age of the participants was 37.79±8.94 years, and 48.1% were illiterate. In all, 25.9% of the women were convicted of theft and 72.2% had another 1-4 years remaining to serve. The mean PSI score before the psychoeducation course was 115.72±15.77, and 110.85±14.01 after the program. The mean SSI score was 243.94±31.15 before the psychoeducation course and 248.92±42.59 afterwards. There was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of both scales before and after the psychoeducation program. Conclusion: The psychoeducation program prepared to meet the needs of the female prisoners studied had a positive effect on their social skills and problem-solving skills. The addition of psychoeducation programs to the educational programs offered in penal institutions could be very beneficial. Additional studies with control group monitoring are recommended.

    Bir grup üniversite öğrencisinde toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri ve homofobi arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesi

    Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencileri örnekleminde toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri ve homofobi arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte yapılan çalışma bir devlet üniversitesinde okuyan 1048 üniversite öğrencisi ile yürütüldü. Veriler Bilgi Formu, Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolleri Tutum Ölçeği ve Eşcinsellere İlişkin Tutumlar Ölçeği ile toplandı. Çalışma verileri bilgisayar ortamında SPSS 21 paket programı kullanılarak analiz edildi. Veriler değerlendirilirken değişkenlerin normal dağılıma uygunluğu Shapiro Wilks testi ile analiz edildi. Sosyodemografik özellikler ve ölçek puan dağılımı tanımlayıcı istatistiksel analizler, bağımsız iki değişkenin karşılaştırılmasında normal dağılıma uygunluk sağlanıyorsa student t testi, sağlanamadığında ise Mann Whitney U testi ile analiz edildi. Ölçek puanları arasındaki ilişkiler Pearson korelasyon analizi ile incelendi. Tüm analizler için anlamlılık p<0.05 düzeyinde kabul edildi. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin yaş ortalaması 20,39±2.23’tü ve %43,9’u erkekti. Öğrencilerin eşcinsellere yönelik tutum ölçeği puan ortalaması 86,71±24,88 olup, %49,04’ü ölçekten ortalamanın üstünde puan aldı. Öğrencilerin toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri puan ortalaması 66,49±22,33’tü. Toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri ve eşcinsellere ilişkin tutum ölçekleri puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı pozitif yönde ilişkiler (r=,310 ile ,651; p=,000) olduğu bulundu. Sonuç: Üniversite öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri tutumları daha çok gelenekseldir ve yaklaşık yarısının eşcinsellere ilişkin tutumları homofobiktir. Üniversite öğrencilerinde toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri ile homofobi ilişkilidir ve toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri ölçeğinden alınan puanlar arttıkça homofobi ölçeğinden alınan puanlar da artmaktadır.

    Ergenlere verilen çatışma yönetimi programının değerlendirilmesi: yetiştirme yurdu örneği

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, Ankara’daki yetiştirme yurtlarında kalan ergenlere yönelik hazırlanan çatışma yönetimi eğitiminin, ergenlerin çatışma yönetme biçimleri üzerine etkinliğini değerlendirmektir. Araştırma yetiştirme yurdunda kalan ergenlerin çatışma yönetimi eğitiminin etkisini inceleyen, deney ve kontrol gruplu, yarı deneysel desende ön test, son test ve izleme testli, yarı yapılandırılmış olarak planlanmıştır. Araştırma, 40 ergen deney (eğitim alan) grubu ve 40 ergen kontrol grubu olmak üzere Aile, Çalışma ve Sosyal Hizmetler Bakanlığı’na bağlı, Ankara’daki bir sevgi evi ve yetiştirme yurtlarında yaşayan 80 ergen ile yürütülmüştür. Eğitim grubundaki ergenlere 10 hafta boyunca araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan çatışma yönetimi eğitim programı uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada, Çatışma Çözme Davranışı Belirleme Ölçeği kullanılarak eğitim alan ve kontrol gruplarındaki ergenlerde ön-test, son- test ve izleme testi olarak tekrarlı değerlendirilmiştir. Verilerin değerlendirilmesi için SPSS-15 paket programı ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. On hafta boyunca uygulanan eğitim programının eğitim alan gruptaki ergenlerin, problem çözme puanlarını anlamlı derecede yükseltmiş, saldırganlık puanlarını ise anlamlı derecede düşürmüştür (p˂0.05). Ergenlere yönelik hazırlanan çatışma yönetimi eğitim programının yetiştirme yurdunda kalan ergenlerin çatışma çözme stratejilerini olumlu yönde etkilediğini göstermiştir.

    Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (ACSS)

    Objectives: Because cosmetic/aesthetic surgery has increased dramatically worldwide, it is necessary to evaluate the reasons and psychosocial situation of the persons proposing to undergo this surgery before any surgical intervention. The aims of the current study were to examine the validity and reliability of the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (ACSS) among Turkish persons. Methods: This methodological study was conducted with 584 participants. Content and construct validity studies were carried out to test the validity of the scale. The construct validity was analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). For the scale's reliability, the techniques of internal consistency and consistency over time were used. Results: The Turkish adaptation of the ACSS was found to be valid, exhibiting a content validity index in the range of 0.80-1 on the item level, and 0.90 at the scale level. The scale displayed a three-factor structure. The total Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the scale was 0.92; the Cronbach's alpha coefficient for Factor 1 (Interpersonal) was 0.81; and 0.86 for Factor 2 (Social). The Cronbach alpha coefficient for Factor 3 (Consider) was 0.90. Conclusion: The ACSS is a valid and reliable tool that can be used in assessing acceptance of cosmetic surgery.

    Examination of impulsiveness and aggression in substance abuse

    Objective: The use of addictive substances is usually related with many problems physical, mental and social aspects. The present study aims to examine levels of impulsiveness and aggression and the relationships between impulsiveness and aggression in substance abuse. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in an alcohol and addiction treatment center of a psychiatric hospital in Istanbul. In order to conduct this study, ethical committee permission was obtained from the Ethics Committee of Marmara University and official permission was obtained from hospital. The sample size was calculated using a statistical formula and the study was conducted with 126 patients. Data was collected by Demographic Information Form, Barrat Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11) and Buss Pery Aggression Scale (BPAS). The data was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis Shapiro-Wilk test, Student's t test, Mann-Whitney U, One-way ANOVA, Kruskal Wallis and Pearson correlation analysis. Results: 92.9 % male of patients, 58.7 % were single, 40.5% high school graduates and mean age was 29.53 +/- 8.20. BIS-11 total score of the patients was 63.86 +/- 8:47. BPAS total score of the patients was 50.70 +/- 20.77. Statistically significant positive peer relationships were found between averages of BIS-11 total scores, BPAS total scores and all sub-scale scores (between BIS11 total scores and BPAS total scores r=0.299, p=0.001; physical aggression r=0.225; p=0.012; verbal aggression r=0.212, p=0.018; anger r=0.191, p=0.033; hostility r=0.373, p=0.001). Discussion: In this study, the majority of participants was male. Of substance abuse, it is seen that increased impulsivity, aggression increases overall score.

    The use of creative art as a strategy for case formulation in psychotherapy a case study

    Case formulation refers to the appraisal of the individual data and the treatment plan in terms of certain principles. In psychotherapy, case formulation is relevant for the recognition of conceptual and clinical tools as well as for the evaluation of the therapeutic endeavor. Artwork (painting) provides an effective tool for case formulation because it allows the individual to express his/her thoughts and emotions, which are prone to the influences of subconscious drives, conflicts, fears, and desires in a symbolic fashion. In this study, case formulation of a 31-year-old woman, who cannot overcome her verbal and physical aggressive behaviors, is presented. For case formulation, four sessions of artwork are used. The main purpose of the present case is to discuss the use of creative artwork as a means for case formulation in dynamic psychotherapy

    Fabrika çalışanlarında yalnızlık, depresyon ve tükenmişliğin incelenmesi

    Amaç: Bu çalışma fabrika çalışanlarında yalnızlık, dep resyon ve tükenmişliğin incelenmesi amacıyla yapıldı. Materyal ve Metot: Tanımlayıcı ve ilişki arayıcı tipteki bu araştırma, İstanbul'da bir iş yerinde yapıldı. Araştırma nın evrenini işyeri çalışanları (N=450), örneklemini ise 265 çalışan oluşturdu. Veriler, Kişisel Bilgi Formu, UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği 3. Versiyon, Beck Depresyon Envanteri ve Maslach Tükenmişlik Envanteri ile toplandı. Bulgular: Çalışanların yaş ortalaması 33,99±8,15, % 78.9’u erkek, %51,7’si ilköğretim mezunu, %83,0’ü işçi dir. UCLA yalnızlık ölçeği puan ortalaması 39,83±8,98; BECK depresyon envanteri puan ortalaması 8.06±7.66 ve Maslach Tükenmişlik Envanteri alt boyutlarından; duygu sal tükenme 20,05±7,17, duyarsızlaşma 8,78±3,94, kişisel başarı puan ortalaması 27,90±6,26’dır. Çalışanların UCLA yalnızlık ölçeği, BECK depresyon ölçeği ve Maslach Tü kenmişlik Envanteri puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur (p˂0,05). Sonuç: Bu araştırmanın bulguları, çalışanların yalnızlık, depresyon ve tükenmişlik puanlarının ilişkili olduğunu göstermektedir.

    The effect of Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program on emotion regulation and self-efficacy in children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

    Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program on emotion regulation and self-efficacy in children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and receiving medication. Method: The sample of this study with control group and pre-test, post-test and follow-up randomized experimental design consisted of children followed in the child and adolescent mental health outpatient clinic of a state hospital. The data were evaluated by parametric and non-parametric analyses. Results: A statistically significant increase was determined in the internal functional emotion regulation mean scores of children, who participated in the Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program, measured before, immediately after, and 6 months after the intervention (p < 0.05). A statistically significant increase was also found in their external functional emotion regulation mean scores measured before and 6 months after the intervention (p < 0.05). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between their internal dysfunctional and external dysfunctional emotion regulation mean scores measured before and 6 months after the intervention; however the mean scores of those in the control group 6 months after the intervention were higher than those in the intervention group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a statistically significant increase in their self-efficacy mean scores measured before and 6 months after the intervention (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The Self-Regulation Based Cognitive Psychoeducation Program was found be effective in increasing the levels of emotion regulation and self-efficacy in children with ADHD.

    Difficulties experienced by a group of nursing students during pandemic process and their coping strategies: A qualitative research

    Objective: This phenomenologic study aims to investigate the difficulties experienced by a group of nursing students during the pandemia process thoroughly and to explain coping strategies. Methods: This research was carried out using the phenomenological method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, to examine the views of nursing students on their pandemic experiences and their coping strategies “Information Form” and “Questionnaire Form” were sent to the students online, and forms that were filled out completely and sent back were included in the content analysis. Results: Participants mean age was 21.19±1.06. Of the participants, 77.00% were female, 34.4% stated that they live in a metropolis during the pandemia process, while 83.6% mentioned that they were with their family, 31.1% did not leave their homes unless it is necessary. As a result of data analysis, the main themes of difficulties/stressors, stress/anxiety increasing factors, and coping strategies were reached. Conclusion: Student nurses experience more than one difficulty regarding the pandemia process; some students state that the pandemia process has changed their perception of their profession, and they mostly use positive methods to cope with these difficulties.

    The effectiveness of the sexual health psychoeducation program for physically disabled adolescents

    This research was planned to evaluate the effectiveness of the online psychoeducation program including sexual health education in physically disabled adolescents. In this study, a randomized experimental design with pretest-posttest, follow-up measurement, intervention and control groups was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the sexual health online psychoeducation program in adolescents with physical disabilities. The universe of the study consists of adolescent members aged 12-15 in the Turkish Spinal Cord Paralysis Association (N :600). Nearly 90 people with physical disabilities and their families, who were included in the inclusion criteria of the study, were reached through the institution. 62 people were included in the study as a result of the foresights made due to the intensity of their online classes due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and their inability to volunteer for the subject of the research (they are ashamed and do not want to discuss it as a topic to be discussed). Participants were divided into 31 participants as intervention group and 31 participants as control group by randomization method. The intervention group was divided into 3 groups of 10 and a six-week psychoeducation program lasting 60 minutes once a week was applied. At the end of the training, the intervention and control groups were given a post-test and a follow-up test at the end of the 3rd month. As a result of the statistical findings made within the scope of the sexual health knowledge and attitude inventory, when the posttest and 3rd month follow-ups of the experimental group were examined, a significant difference was found in their attitudes towards sexuality, attitudes towards sexual behaviors and attitudes towards sexually transmitted diseases (p<0.05). This study can be a guide for creating a model for the creation of sexual health programs for adolescents with physical disabilities.
