    Analysis of the effect of mind mapping activities on the acquisition of values of 60-72 month-old children

    The aim of this research is to analyse the effect of mind mapping activities on the acquisition of respect, responsibility, honesty, collaboration, sharing, friendship and courage values of 60-72-month-old children. The research was conducted with 30 children who received education in two separate classes of a preschool in İstanbul, Turkey. A 16-week teaching programme was carried out with the experimental and control groups using the what, where, why, when, who, how method in Turkish, drama, arts, preparation for reading and writing, music and plays and movement as integrated activities based on the teaching of values. In addition to the activities, mind mapping was carried out with the experimental group as part of the teaching of values. According to the results of the analysis, the post-test scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. In addition, a significant increase in the values acquired for both the experimental and control groups were determined.

    The effect of mind mapping on young children's critical thinking skills

    Educational practices are highly significant for the development of critical thinking. Mind mapping is one of the practices which supports the skills of individuals such as interpretation, analysis, explanation and evaluation. This study aims to analyse the effect of mind mapping studies which support critical thinking skills through philosophical inquiry, on such skills of the children aged 48-72 months. Research was conducted with 116 children who receive education in six classes within a preschool educational institution located in Istanbul. The research consisted of experimental group-1 which was subjected to individual mind mapping studies, experimental group-2 which were included in large group mind mapping studies and the control group which continued with the current Preschool Curriculum of the Ministry of Education. The practices completed within eight weeks. In line with the results of the analyses, it was understood that the critical thinking skills scores of children in the experimental group-1 and experimental group-2 were significantly higher than the children in the control group. It was also found that experimental group-2 who large group performed mind mapping made progress further than those of the children in experimental group-1 subjected to individual mind mapping studies.

    Analysis of the effect of mind mapping studies on the acquisition of the concept of time among 60-72 month-old children

    This study aims to analyze the effect of mind mapping studies on the acquisition of the concept of time among 60-72 month-old children. The research was conducted with 30 children who attend a preschool in Istanbul. The Mind Mapping: Concept of Time Program was applied to 15 children in the experimental group of the study, for 12 weeks. Pre-test and post-test data for the study were gathered through the Time Concept Achievement Assessment Scale. It was found that the total post-test scores of the children in the experimental group obtained using the scale and their total post-test scores obtained from the Sub-Scales of Before-Now-After, Morning-NoonEvening-Night, Month, Year, and Time Indicator Tools were significantly higher than those of the children in the control group. As a result of the study, it was set forth that mind mapping studies are an effective strategy for children’s acquisition of the concept of time.
