Abstract
This study examines the inheritance and the household of Muhsinzâde Abdullah Pasha, an Ottoman statesman who lived during the 17th and 18th centuries. Muhsinzâde Abdullah Pasha, who is estimated to have been born in the 1660s, entered state service at the beginning of the 18th century, thereby emerging onto the stage of history. In a career spanning nearly half a century, he undertook many services on behalf of the Ottoman Empire. His important roles in the 1703 Edirne Revolt, the 1715-18 Ottoman-Habsburg/Venetian wars, the 1730 Patrona Revolt and the 1736-38 Ottoman-Habsburg/Russian wars carried him to the position of grand vizier in 1737, a position he held for four and a half months. Abdullah Pasha, who fulfilled many of the duties assigned to him, was a person whose experience was utilized in difficult times. Having spent a significant part of his career in the Rumelia provinces, Abdullah Pasha was repeatedly appointed as governor of the Rumelia Province and Bosnia. Abdullah Pasha died in 1749 in Travnik, a city in Bosnia known as the city of viziers. When Muhsinzâde Abdullah Pasha passed away, he left behind many valuable belongings, which were confiscated by the state and brought to Istanbul. Many items of high monetary value such as furs, weapons, household goods, jewelry and jewels are recorded in the inheritance notebooks. Household documents provide us with a wealth of information about who surrounded an Ottoman pasha and the composition of his entourage. By analyzing the inheritance and household documents, it was thought that important details about the personal and political life of an Ottoman Pasha could be revealed.
