Okul Kültürü öğrenci başarısı ilişkisi: İstanbul ili ilköğretim okullarında ampirik bir araştırma

Abstract

OKUL KÜLTÜRÜ ÖĞRENCİ BAŞARISI İLİŞKİSİ: İSTANBUL İLİ İLKÖĞRETİM OKULLARINDA AMPİRİK BİR ARAŞTIRMA Okulların başarıları ile okulda hakim olan kültürün arasında bir ilişki var mı? Araştırmada bu temel sorudan hareketle, İstanbul İli İlköğretim Okulları ortaöğretime yerleştirme puan ortalamaları dikkate alınarak, başarı ortalaması en yüksek 5 okul ve başarı ortalaması en düşük 5 okul tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmaya sadece devlet okulları alınmıştır. Araştırmada, ilköğretim okullarındaki öğretmen ve yöneticilere, örgüt kültürü ölçeği uygulanmış, buradan elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda başarılı ve başarısız kabul edilen okullar arasında, öğretmen ve yöneticilerin sahip olduğu sayıltılar ve okuldaki örgütsel uygulamalar açısından okul kültürü farklılıkları tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmada başarı ortalaması düşük ve yüksek okullarda çalışan yönetici ve öğretmenlerin sahip oldukları temel sayıltılarda farklılık bulunmamıştır. Örgütsel uygulamalar açısından oldukça farklılık olduğu görülmüştür. “Yarışma”, “amaçta birlik”, “sonuca yönelme” ve “ödüllendirme” alt boyutlarında farklılık göstermektedir. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SCHOOL CULTURE AND THE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT: AN EMPIRICAL RESEARCH IN THE CITY OF ISTANBUL’S ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS Is there any relationship between the schools’ achievement and the dominant culture in the schools? Based on this question, five schools with lowest achievement score and five schools with highest achievement scores was determined by considering mean scores of secondary school placement examination results of the schools in Istanbul. Only the state schools were taken into this research. In the research “the organizational culture environmental scale” was applied to the students, teachers and school administrators. In the light of the data obtained there, differences in school culture were determined in terms of assumptions belonging to teachers and administrations, and organizational applications between the schools which were accepted as successful and unsuccessful. The analysis of the questionnaires revealed that there is not any difference in terms of assumptions belonging to the administrators and teachers between worked in schools with lowest achievement score and worked in schools with highest achievement score. It was found that there is much difference in terms of organizational practices. The results of this research has shown many difference in the subscales of “Competition”, “unity in purpose”, “results orientation”, “rewarding”. These differences in all four subscales are in favor of schools with highest achievement score. Key Words: Organizational Culture, School Culture, Student Achievement
