Pandemi döneminde uzaktan eğitimde öğrencilerin iletişim becerileri üzerine bir inceleme : Marmara Üniversitesi örneği

Abstract

Günümüzde eğitim veren üniversitelerimizde birden fazla eğitim türü karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bunlardan bazıları; örgün öğretim ve açık ve uzaktan öğretim olmak üzere 2 ana tür eğitim konusunda bireylere yardımcı olmaktadır. Teknolojinin gelişmesi ve eğitim alanında daha yaygın kullanılmasıyla birlikte “uzaktan eğitim” daha etkin ve yaygın olarak kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Son yıllarda, uzaktan eğitim alanında eğitim alan öğrenci sayıları günden güne artmaktadır. Bu durum eğitim-öğretim veren kurumların dışında özel sektörde hizmet veren şirketlerin de çalışanları için kullanılmaya başlanması bu modeli daha önemli bir etken olduğunu göstermektedir. İletişim, bilindiği üzere bir mesajın alıcıya sesli, yazılı, görsel veya diğer yöntemlerle ulaşması ve alıcıdan benzer kanallar ile geri dönüş olması yoluyla oluşmaktadır. Teknolojik gelişmeler ile birlikte bilgi iletişim teknolojisinde de gelişmeler yaşanmış ve bu gelişmeler daha çeşitli yollarla iletişim kurma olanağı sunmuştur. Teknolojik araçların farklılığı iletişiminde çeşitlenmesinde yarar sağlamıştır. Uzaktan eğitim yöntemiyle yapılan eğitimde iletişimin gerçekleşebilmesi için iletişim becerilerinin önemi kadar, teknolojinin bu iletişim döngüsündeki yeri de çok önemli bir konuma gelmiştir. Uzaktan eğitim sistemleri, uzaktan eğitim için kullanılan yazılım ve donanım olanakları bir arada kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen bir araçtır. Kullanılan bu sistemler, dünyada bir anda ortaya çıkan COVID-19 (yeni koranavirus hastalığı) salgınıyla birlikte hayatımızda büyük bir yer kaplamaya başlamıştır. Pandemi döneminde eğitimin devam edebilmesi ve sürdürülebilir olması için kullanılan bu sistemler aracılığıyla bireylerin iletişim konusunda problemler yaşadığı kanısına varıldığı düşünülmektedir. Bu tezin amacı, öğrencilerin iletişim becerileriyle uzaktan eğitim sistemlerini kullanma becerileri arasında bir ilişki olup olmadığını tespit etmektir. Böylece uzaktan eğitim sistemlerinin iletişim becerilerini iyileştirmeye yönelik fonksiyonları geliştirilmesi ve daha kullanışlı olması sağlanabilir. Bu araştırma kapsamında Marmara Üniversitesi öğrencilerine, iletişim becerileri ile uzaktan eğitim sistemi kullanımı arasındaki ilişkiyi tespit etmek üzerine bir anket çalışması uygulanmıştır. Anket çalışması öncesinde bir pilot çalışma yapılmıştır. Yapılan pilot çalışması sonrasında anketin son hali hazırlanmıştır. Bu anket çalışması 3 aşamadan oluşmaktadır. Birinci aşama, öğrencinin demografik özelliklerin belirlenmesi için hazırlanmış olup, ikinci aşamada ise iletişim becerilerinin ölçülmesi için sorular bulunmaktadır. Son aşamada da öğrencilerin uzaktan eğitim sistemleri kullanımı üzerine yaşadıkları tecrübeler göz önünde bulundurarak soruların cevaplandırılması sağlanmıştır. Daha sonra elde edilecek veriler toplanarak analiz sonrası iletişim becerileri yüksek olan öğrencilerin uzaktan eğitim sistemi kullanımını etkisinin rolü ortaya konulmuştur. Yapılan araştırmada iletişim beceri düzeylerinin uzaktan eğitim sistemleri kullanımında ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bireysel olarak öğrencilerin iletişim becerilerine göre uzaktan eğitim sistemi kullanım becerileri tespit edilebilmektedir.

In today's universities, multiple types of education are offered. Among these, two primary forms stand out: formal education and open and distance learning, both of which assist individuals in their educational pursuits. With the advancement of technology and its increased application in the educational field, 'distance education' has become more prevalent and widely used. In recent years, the number of students participating in distance education has been increasing day by day. This situation shows that this model is a more important factor as it is being used for the employees of companies providing services in the private sector besides educational institutions. Communication, as is well known, occurs through the transmission of a message to the receiver via auditory, written, visual, or other methods, followed by feedback from the receiver through similar channels. With technological advancements, there have also been developments in information and communication technology, providing more diverse ways to communicate. The variety of technological tools has contributed to the diversification of communication. In distance education, the importance of communication skills is as significant as the role of technology in this communication cycle. Distance education systems are tools realized by using both software and hardware facilities utilized for distance education. These systems, which are used, have started to occupy a significant place in our lives with the COVID-19 epidemic that suddenly emerged in the world. It is thought that individuals have problems in communication through these systems, which are used for the continuation and sustainability of education during the pandemic period. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between students' communication skills and their ability to utilize distance education systems. By doing so, the functionalities of distance education systems aimed at enhancing communication skills can be developed and made more purposeful. As part of this research, a survey was conducted with Marmara University students to determine the relationship between communication skills and the use of the distance education system. A pilot study was conducted before the survey. After the pilot study, the final version of the survey was prepared. This survey consists of three stages. The first stage was designed to determine the demographic characteristics of the students, while the second stage includes questions to measure communication skills. In the final stage, students answered questions based on their experiences with the use of distance education systems. The collected data will be analyzed to reveal the role of high communication skills in the use of the distance education system. The research found that there is a relationship between communication skill levels and the use of distance education systems. It was determined that students' abilities to use the distance education system can be identified based on their individual communication skills.
