Publication: Kütüphane ve bilgi bilimi yayınlarının bibliyometrik ve içeriksel analizi
Abstract
Together with developments in information and communication technologies, the importance of studies to examine scientific disciplines is increasing. Bibliometric analysis is the most preferred method to examine and evaluate the scientific outputs of a discipline. Through bibliometric analysis, details about research produced in a field can be revealed. In this way, the area's current situation can be determined, predictions and suggestions for the future can be presented. In this thesis, a bibliometric analysis study was carried out for library and information science publications produced in 2010-2020 indexed in WOS and Scopus databases. The main purpose of the study is to reveal the current status of library and information science in academia and to guide researchers who will work in this field. For this purpose, the main hypothesis was formed as follows; The field of library and information science, which has a very wide scope, has a variable structure and this structure is also reflected in the field literature. The analysis for publications consisted of six stages and the findings of each stage were presented under sub-headings. In the title of descriptive statistics, the basic data of the publications are given. In the source analysis stage, journals, books, and conference papers were examined. In the productivity analysis phase, authors, institutions, and countries were evaluated according to their potential to produce publications. In the citation analysis stage, the citation potential of the field and the characteristics of the most cited publications were determined. In the collaborative analysis phase, co-produced publications were discussed and in the final phase, the most preferred the publications were discovered and the themes they focused on were revealed. According to the results, the publication production potential of the library and information science field is increasing. In terms of production rate, a certain group has formed in journals, authors, institutions, and countries. The relationship of the discipline with other research fields is highly developed and cooperation studies have been carried out with many different fields. The production of joint publications at the international level is increasing, which shows that there is strong communication between researchers working in the field. There have been significant differences in the used in publications over the years, and the use of technology-oriented concepts has increased from 2010 to 2020. Thus, it is seen that the publications adapt to the changes in the world of technology and science. It has been determined that there are serious differences between WOS and Scopus databases, especially in the content analysis phase. These findings obtained at the last stage of the study were summarized and the recommendations produced based on the results were presented as items.
