Süre değişkenli mekansal nitel tercih modelleri ile illerin ekonomik performanslarının analizi

Abstract

Coğrafi birimlerin ekonomik gelişimi üzerine yapılan çalışmalar, söz konusu birimlere ait ekonomik performansların artırılmasında etkili olabilecek strateji ve politikaların geliştirilmesine imkân tanımaktadır. Bu doğrultuda, beşerî sermayenin sahip olduğu eğitim düzeyinin, illerin ekonomik performansları üzerindeki etkisinin araştırıldığı çalışmada, model tahmini için süre değişkenli mekânsal nitel tercih modelleri kullanılmıştır. 2015-2020 dönemini kapsayan çalışmada, zaman etkisini temsilen modele süre değişkeni ilave edilmiştir. Nitel tercih modelleri için geliştirilen testler aracılığıyla mekânsal bağımlılığın araştırıldığı çalışmada, mekânsal bağımlılığın tespitiyle birlikte süre değişkenli mekânsal nitel tercih modelleri farklı tahmin yöntemleri ile tahmin edilirken, model tahmin sonuçlarının hem tahmin yönteminin hem de mekânsal ağırlık matrisinin seçimine dair duyarlılığı incelenmiştir. Tahminler neticesinde uygun model olduğu tespit edilen, en yakın k komşuluk kriteri ile oluşturulan mekânsal ağırlık matrisinin kullanıldığı süre değişkenli mekânsal probit modelinde, beşerî sermayeye ait eğitimin illerin ekonomik performansları üzerinde oldukça önemli etkileri olduğu belirlenirken, mezuniyet oranları ile okullaşma oranlarının ekonomik performansları artırdığı, okuma yazma bilmeyen oranının ise azalttığı tespit edilmiştir. Komşu illerin ekonomik performanslarının birbirinden pozitif yönde etkilendiğine dair pozitif mekânsal bağımlılık bulgusunun yanı sıra, 2015-2020 dönemi içerisinde modelin bağımlı değişkeni olan ve illerin ekonomik performanslarını temsilen kullanılan, dolar bazındaki kişi başına düşen gelirin medyan değerin üzerinde olma olasılığının giderek azaldığı da model tahmin sonuçlarından elde edilen bulgular arasındadır.

Studies on the economic development of geographic units allow the development of strategies and policies that can be effective in increasing the economic performance of these units. In this study, which investigates the effect of the level of education of human capital on the economic performance of provinces, the spatial qualitative choice models with time variables are used for model estimation. In the study covering the 2015-2020 period, a duration variable has been added to the model to represent the time effect. In this study, spatial dependence is investigated through the tests developed for qualitative choice models, and spatial qualitative choice models with duration variables are estimated with different estimation methods. In addition, the sensitivity of the model estimation results to the choice of both the estimation method and the spatial weight matrix have been examined. It has been determined that the education of human capital has significant effects on the economic performance of the provinces in the time-varying spatial probit model, in which the matrix of spatial weights created with the k-nearest neighborhood criterion, which it is determined as the appropriate model is used as a result of the estimates. Additionally, graduation and schooling rates increase economic performance, while the illiteracy rate decreases. In addition to the positive spatial dependence finding that the economic performances of neighboring provinces are positively affected from each other, the model estimation results also show that the probability of the per capita income in dollars, which is the dependent variable of the model and used to represent the economic performances of the provinces, to be above the median value gradually decreased in the 2015-2020 period.
