Publication: Dokuma eyleminde sanatsal yaratıcılık ve deneysellik ilişkisi
Abstract
THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE ARTISTIC CREATION AND EXPERIMENTALITY IN WEAVING The weaving action is one of the oldest creations of the human beings, during the history. Weaving is a language of creation which was used mainly as a need before the industrial revolution and now is an artistic expression means. As soon as the weaving appeared, the creation merged with interest in producing a new surface and burst into sight both in technical and material areas. The materials and technical possibilities have developed within conscious or unconscious experimental methods. The weaving action, which is also used as a plastic expression means, produces a genuine language in artistic expressions thanks to the fact that it inherently contains the design elements and principles. During the creative process, the variable elements of the weaving action have merged with the experimental possibilities and provided various surfaces, creating a plastic language of the textile. In this context, the aim of the study titled “The Correlation Between the Artistic Creation and Experimentality in Weaving Action” is to examine the actual texture of the weaving from the past to the date, and to analyze the plastic possibilities of the weaving and highlight the experimental concept in artistic creation process, which have occurred as a result of its merging with the art. The study consists of three main sections: Weaving and Textile Fabric Surfaces; New Quests in Textile Fabrics; Art and Creation, Experimentality. In order to provide a general overview about the weaving or textile, the first section focuses on a brief history, textile manufacturing techniques, using the weaving action as an artistic expression means that the weaving and changing artistic concept brought in after the Industrial Revolution, and the experimental approach brought into the textile sector by Bauhaus. The second section explains the notions such as creation, the creative process in the art and experimentality, which are the the thesis. The third section illustrates the textile variables that are inherently found in the weaving action through practical samples and provides an opportunity for experimental study; examines the design principles and elements, and experimentality in textile textures. As a suggestion, an experimental approach system has been created and 120 pieces of weaving applications has been provided; their visual, tactual and technical analyses have been carried out.
