Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar'ın eserlerinde mekân

Abstract

Bir ağacın yer altına uzanan kökleri ve dört bir yana savrulan dalları gibi mekân, sonsuz olasılığı içinde barındırır. Bu tezde Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’ın eserlerinin karakteristik bir öğesi olan mekân konusu incelendi. Eserlerinde modernist unsurları kullanan Tanpınar; mitleri, masalları yeniden yazarak tekinsiz, ikili karşıtlıklarla örülü, belirsiz, sürrealist mekânlar inşa eder. Hem gerçekçi hem gerçek dışı, hem geleneksel hem modern, hem ilkel hem medeni bir tahterevallinin iki ucunu yansıtan mekânlar yaratır. Bu bağlamda Tanpınar’ın yazınında mekân, geniş bir incelemeyi gerektirir. Tezde Tanpınar’ın yazınındaki mekânlar, kurmaca eserlerindeki mekânlar ve hayatındaki mekânlar olmak üzere iki kısma ayrılarak incelenmiştir. Kurmaca eserlerindeki mekânlar; Bachelard’ın Uzamın Poetikası adlı eseri, Mihail Bahtin’in “kronotop”, Michel Foucault’nun “heterotopya” kavramı ve Derrida’nın “yapısöküm” kuramı merkezinde ele alındı. Tanpınar’ın hayatındaki mekânlar ise hatıraları, günlükleri, denemeleri, mektupları ışığında değerlendirildi. Tanpınar’ın gittikçe çatallanan, binbir çeşit bahçeye açılan mekânları okurunu uçsuz bucaksız bir labirente sokar, hayal ile gerçek arasında bir rüyanın eşiğinde bırakır ve insanı içine girmekten haz duyacağı âlemlere davet eder. Bu tez, okuru eşikten geçirerek Tanpınar’ın mekânlarındaki kapıları aşmayı ve alandaki boşluğu doldurmayı vadeder.

Just like the roots of a tree stretching underground and its branches sprawling in all directions, space embodies infinite possibilities. This thesis examines the concept of space, a characteristic element in the works of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar. Employing modernist elements in his works, Tanpınar rewrites myths and fairy tales to construct uncanny, paradoxical, ambiguous, and surreal spaces. He creates spaces that reflect the two ends of a seesaw both realistic and unrealistic, both traditional and modern, both primitive and civilized. In this context, the concept of space in Tanpınar’s literature requires a broad examination. In the thesis, the spaces in Tanpınar's literature are analyzed in two sections: the spaces in his fictional works and the spaces in his life. The spaces in his fictional works are discussed through the lens of Bachelard’s Poetics of Space, Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of chronotope, Michel Foucault’s heterotopia, and Derrida’s theory of deconstruction. The spaces in Tanpınar’s life, on the other hand, are evaluated in light of his memoirs, diaries, essays, and letters. Tanpınar's increasingly branching spaces, leading to a myriad of gardens, immerse the reader in an endless labyrinth, leaving them on the threshold of a dream between fantasy and reality, and inviting them into worlds they would delight in entering. This thesis promises to cross the doors within Tanpınar’s spaces by guiding the reader across the threshold and to fill the gap in the field.
