Coğrafya öğretmenlerinin kullandıkları teknik ve yöntemlerin lise coğrafya dersleri öğretiminin verimi üzerindeki etkileri

Abstract

Yaşadığımız dünya ve içerisinde bulunduğumuz şartlar çok hızlı bir değişim süreci içerisindedir. Bütün kurum, kuruluş ve sistemler de bu süreç içerisinde farklılaşmak ve kendilerini yeni durumlara adapte etmek zorundadırlar. Eğer yenilenme ve değişime tabi olma söz konusu olmazsa modern dünyanın ve çağımızın çok gerisinde kalınabilir. Bu durumda da geleneksel değerler ile modern değerler arasında bir çatışma meydana gelecektir. Yenilik ve değişim adı altında tüm geleneksel değerleri yok saymak ne kadar yanlış ise yeniliklere ve değişimlere kapalı olarak körü körüne geleneksel değerleri savunmak da o kadar yanlış bir tutumdur. Önemli olan modern değerler ile geleneksel değerleri harmanlamak ve daha iyiye doğru yol almaktır. Eğitim sistemi içerisinde de bahsettiğimiz durum yaşanmaktadır. Bir tarafta geleneksel (öğretmen merkezli) öğretim yöntemleri, diğer tarafta da modern (öğrenci merkezli) öğretim yöntemleri bulunmaktadır. Ülkemizde eğitim sistemi içerisindeki geleneksel öğretim yöntemlerinin modern öğretim yöntemlerine yerini bırakması süreci çok yavaş ilerlemektedir. Bu da ülkemizdeki eğitimin kalitesi açısından olumsuz sonuçlar doğurmaktadır. Gerek geleneksel gerekse de modern öğretim yöntemlerinin kullanılmasında dikkat edilmesi gereken bazı özellikler, faydalar ve sınırlılıklar bulunmaktadır. Bunlar gözetilerek yapılacak öğretim daha etkin ve verimli olacaktır. Bu çalışma ile coğrafya öğretmenlerimizin kullandığı teknik ve yöntemlerin neler olduğu, bunların coğrafya eğitimi öğretiminde ne gibi sonuçlar oluşturduğu tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Coğrafya öğretmenlerimizin çoğunun hala geleneksel öğretim yöntemlerini kullanmaya devam ettiğini, bunun da etkin ve verimli bir coğrafya öğretimini sağlayamadığı görülmüştür. Bunun nedenleri arasında coğrafya öğretmenlerimizin kişisel ve mesleki özelliklerinin yanı sıra okullarımızın fiziki imkânlarının yetersizliği, sınıfların kalabalık olması, coğrafya ders saatlerinin müfredat programını yetiştirebilmek için yetersiz kalması gibi özelliklerde gösterilebilir.

The world that we live and our conditions are in a fast changing process. All institutions, foundings and systems have to differentiate and adapt themselves to the new situations in their process. If there is no renewal and changing, it can be back of the modern world and our age. But in this situation there will be a conflict between the traditional values and the modern values. How wrong it is to ignore the traditional values in the name of renewal and changing, it is also wrong attitude to defend the traditional values ignoring the renewals and changing. The important thing is gathering the modern values and looking for the best. This situation is also acceptable for the educational system. One hand there are traditional theacher-centered instructional methods and on the other hand there are modern student-centered instructional methods. In our country the process of altering the traditional instructional methods to the modern instructional methods goes up very slowly. That is caused negative consequences in terms of educational quality of Turkey. Both in traditional and modern instructional methods; there are some properties, benifits and limitations. By using these methods, the instruction will be more effective and efficient. This study leads us to find out which techniques and methods our geography theachers use and what concequences it has in the geography education. We see that most of our geography teachers have still maintained the traditional instructional methods and also this situation cannot provide an effective and efficient geography education. Among the reasons of this situation, it can be pointed that the insufficient physical opportunities of our schools, crowded classrooms and insufficient lesson hours for geography curriculum besides our geography teachers' personal and occupational properties.
