Publication: İbrâhim B. Mustafa el-Halebî’nin (ö. 1190/ 1776) Sîretu’n-nebî isimli eserinin tahkik ve tahlili
Abstract
Hz.
The biography (sirah) of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), emerged in early periods of Islamic history and has been one of the most popular disciplines for Islamic scholars outside the field of history for centuries. This study aims to review and introduce the biography of Ibrahim ibn Mustafa al-Halabi, an 18th-century Ottoman scholar who excelled in theology and jurisprudence rather than the sirah itself, to the scholarly world. The work consists of two sections: verse and prose. The author presents his biography chronologically, using a unique style that reflects his profound knowledge of kalam, fiqh, and tasawwuf. It is a unique sirah in that it provides detailed coverage of events and elements of sirah that intersect with these fields. The author primarily used sources such as Ibn Kathir, Qastallani, Diyarbakrî, and Nureddin al-Halabi in writing his work, expressing his original ideas only on issues related to theology, jurisprudence, and Sufism that he wished to discuss. The study consists of four sections: the author's life and works, the work's content, source use,and style, as well as the critically edited work, Siratu’n-Nabi. This thesis serves as a foundation for research on both Ibrahim ibn Mustafa al-Halabi's personality, 18th-century Ottoman ulama sirah writing, and aims to contribute to new academic studies in the field of biography.
