We enhance the formally defined strategic information management (SIM) process. The SIM process suggested treats the information from a resource based perspective and formalizes the links and the interaction with the strategic management (SM) process. The subprocesses, which constitute the SIM process, are explicitly defined. An explicit and well-defined integration is proposed between the SIM and the SM processes through a specific framework. It is emphasized how information management can aid in strategic decision making. © 2000 IEEE.
