ÜNİVERSİTE ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN COĞRAFYA BÖLÜMLERİNİ TERCİH ETMELERİNDE LİSE COĞRAFYA ÖĞRETMENLERİNİN ETKİSİ

Abstract

Üniversite ve meslek tercihi gibi hayatları ile ilgili önemli kararlar alma aşamasına gelen genç bireylerin, bu kararları almasında etki eden birçok değişken bulunmaktadır. Gençlerin üniversite eğitimlerinde etkili olan birçok faktörden biri de onlara rol model olan lise öğretmenleridir. Bu düşünceden hareketle yapılan bu çalışmada, fen edebiyat ve eğitim fakültelerinde coğrafya alanını tercih eden öğrencilerin, bu tercihleri üzerinde coğrafya öğretmenlerinin etkisinin hangi boyutta ve ne şekilde olduğunu ortaya koymak hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmada, Türkiye'de bulunan 11 farklı üniversitede, coğrafya bölümü ve coğrafya öğretmenliği alanlarında öğrenim görmekte olan 1693 öğrenciye anket uygulanmıştır. Yapılan ankette öğrencilere genel olarak üniversite tercihleri üzerinde coğrafya öğretmenlerinin bir etkisinin olup olmadığı, bu etkinin hangi boyutta olduğu ve coğrafya öğretmenlerinin hangi özellikleri ile bu etkiyi sağladıkları ile ilgili sorular sorulmuştur. Çalışma sonucunda ankete katılan öğrencilerin %65'i, coğrafya bölümü veya öğretmenliğini tercih etmelerinde coğrafya öğretmenlerinin etkili olduğunu vurgulamış, bu etkiyi de 10 üzerinden ortalama olarak 7,4 puanla belirtmişlerdir.

Young people who are at the stage of making decisions about preference of a university or a vocation are affected by many effects. One of the effects that affect the choice of these students is their high school teachers as role models for them. Concerning about this fact, this study aimed at revealing the rate, way and extend of this effect of teachers on students' preference of their university departments in the science & literature and the education faculties. In the study, a total of 1693 geography and geography education students from 11 different Turkish universities were surveyed. In this survey, the effect of geography teachers, it's extended and rate and characteristics of teachers that provide this effect were asked to the students. The results of the study revealed that 65% of the students who participated in the survey, were affected by their high school geography teachers and this effect was evaluated as 7.4 out of 10.
