The effect of Peutoxifylline on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion [Miyokard i̇skemi-reperfüzyon hasarina pentoksifilin'in etkisi]

Abstract

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using cardiopulmonary bypass is associated with a systemic inflammatory activation. After an ischemic period, the reperfusion of myocardium frequently results in depressed functions. This phenomenon is called ischemia reperfusion injury. Pentoxifylline (PTX) inhibits invitro neutrophil activation, including adhesion, chemotaxis and oxidant release. The aim of this study is examine the effect of PTX on myocardial reperfusion injury and inflammation. 29 patients who were planed elective CABG were included in the study. 15 patients were administrated 400 mg PTX orally during preoperatively 3 days and 300 mg PTX IV as infusion after anesthesia induction (Group PTK). 14 patients in the control group didn't receive PTX (Group K). After reperfusion the levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and lactate in the coronary sinus were significantly lower in PTX group. And difference ratio of the TBARS and lactate levels were significantly different between two groups. PTX inhibits ischemia reperfusion injury in CABG patients and this inhibition may be important in acute coronary syndrome and low out-put left ventricle with patients.
