Yabancı dil öğretiminde görsel materyalin dinleme becerisine etkisi

Abstract

Çocuklara yabancı dil öğretiminde görsel materyal kullanımı; çocukların öğrendiklerini daha uzun süre hafızada tutabilmeleri, yaratıcıklarını geliştirebilmeleri ve yabancı dile karşı ilgilerinin artması açısından oldukça önemli bir yere sahiptir. Anaokullarında çocuklara uygulanan görsel materyal destekli okuma etkinlikleri gerek ana dil edinimi gerekse yabancı dil öğretimi açısından büyük önem taşır. Bu doğrultuda araştırmanın amacı, çocuklarla gerçekleştirilen görsel materyal destekli okuma etkinliklerinin çocukların anlama becerisi üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bu araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu desen kullanılmıştır. Özel bir okuldaki 20 kişiden oluşan anaokulu öğrencileri 2 gruba ayrılmış ve bu gruplardan bir tanesi deney grubu olarak, diğer grup ise kontrol grubu olarak gözlemlenmiştir. Gözlem 6 haftalık bir süreçte iki adet hikâye kullanılarak 10 kişilik iki sınıfa bölünerek uygulanmıştır. Deney grubundaki 10 kişilik gruba hikâye görsel materyal desteği ile okunmuş, kontrol grubundaki 10 kişilik gruba ise görsel materyal kullanmadan okunarak 6 haftanın sonunda başarı durumlarındaki değişiklik analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın başında ve sonunda öntest ve sonteste verdikleri cevaplar üzerinden aldıkları puanlar hesaplanmış ve nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden t-test tekniği uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda 10 kişilik deney grubu 6. haftanın sonunda son testte sorulan sorulara ön teste oranla daha yüksek cevap vermişler, kontrol grubunda bulunan öğrencilerinin ise anlama düzeylerinde öntest ve sontest sonuçlarına göre anlamlı bir değişiklik olmamıştır. Bu çalışmanın sonucunda, görsel materyal kullanılan deney grubunun kontrol grubundaki çocuklara göre metinleri daha kolay anladıkları saptanmıştır.

Use of visual materials in foreign language teaching of children has a very important role to enhance children in terms of keeping children's learning longer in memory, improve their creativity, and increase their attention of the foreign language. The applications of vocal reading activities for children in kindergartens are crucial acquire native language as well as teaching foreign language. In this respect, the aim of our research is to figure out the effect of vocal reading activities by supporting visual reading material on the children's reading comprehension skills. This study, in which both qualitative and quantitative research is used, is a mixed method research. Kindergarten students of 20 people in a private school were divided into 2 groups and one of them was the experimental group and the other group was the control group. Observations in a period of 6 weeks, the children were divided into two groups with two stories. The group of 10 people in the experimental group was read with the support of visual material. At the beginning and end of the study, the points they received from the pre-test and post-test responses were calculated and t-test technique was applied from quantitative research methods. According to the data obtained, the experimental group of 10 people at the end of the sixth week gave higher answers to the questions asked in the final test compared to the pre-test. As a result of this study, it was determined that the experimental group using visual material understood texts more easily than children in the control group.
