Abstract
The early Quranic copies in the Collection of the Manuscripts of the Topkapı Palace Museum Library are the earliest examples of Islamic art of illumination in terms of their intrinsic elements. Despite the importance of this issue, it has not been adequately studied, and has not been dealt with even in many sources. This study was carried out in order to investigate the first documents in which the classical forms of the art of illumination reached the time, and to understand the elements and the form / function balance of the elements of the art. In this context, a conceptual comparative method was followed by examining the ties used with the classical mushaf motifs, together with the patterns and the fields used. In the study supported by photographs and drawings, a narrative path was followed which included the original words as well as generally accepted terms with the aim of understanding the subject easily. This thesis is prepared with the aim of contributing to the proof of the history of the beginning of the art of illumination with the help of material documents.
