Atakum'da mekansal değişimin incelenmesi

Abstract

Kurulduğu bölge ve yerleşmelere birçok alanda fayda sağlayan üniversiteler, eğitimfonksiyonlarının yanı sıra önemli bir yatırım aracı olarak da görülmektedir. Bu üniversitelerdenbiri olan Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi, Karadeniz Bölgesi’nin gelişimine katkı sağlamak için1975 yılında kurulmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi’nin anayerleşkesi olan Kurupelit Kampüsü’nün Atakum’un gelişimine etkisini belirlemektir. Bu amacayönelik olarak, sahada anket metodu kullanılarak öğrenci ve akademik personeller ilegörüşmeler yapılmıştır. Bu çalışma, dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Giriş kısmında çalışmanınamacı, hipotezleri, araştırma yöntemi, çalışma sahasının konumu ve literatür hakkında genelbilgiler verilmiştir. Birinci bölümde, araştırma sahasının jeoloji, jeomorfoloji, iklim,hidrografya ve bitki örtüsü gibi fiziki coğrafya özelliklerinden bahsedilmiştir. İkinci kısımdasahaya ait nüfus, göç, yerleşme ve ekonomik özellikler üzerinde durulmuştur. Son bölümde yerverilen bulgular kısmında ise anketler yardımıyla elde edilen veriler incelenmiştir.Bu çalışmada, üniversite bünyesinde yer alan kişilerin Atakum’da yapmış olduğuyıllık harcama miktarının araştırmanın yapıldığı 2019-2020 güz ve bahar dönemlerindeyaklaşık 383.393.359 TL olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Diğer yandan belirtilen dönemlerde kampüssayesinde toplam 5.417 kişiye iş imkânı sağlanmıştır. Harcama ve istihdamdaki bu sayılar üniversitenin Atakum için önemli bir kurum olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Samsun şehrininyüzey şekillerinden dolayı doğu ve güney yönlerine doğru gelişememesi, yerleşim sahasınınşehrin batı yönüne doğru gelişmesini sağlamıştır. Bu durum, Atakum nüfusunun hızla artmasınaneden olan faktörlerden biri olmuştur. Bu nüfus artışında Samsundan ve Türkiye’nin diğerillerinden Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesinde okumaya gelen de öğrencilerin önemli etkileriolmuştur. Öğrenci nüfusu, Atakum’un demografik özelliklerini de etkilemiştir. Nitekim,Üniversite aracılığıyla Atakum’a toplam 30.316 kişi gelmekte ve bu kişilerin 21.557’siniöğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Atakum’a göç vasıtasıyla gelen kişiler, konutların nitel ve nicelözelliklerinin değişmesine neden olmuştur. Bu kişilerin konut ihtiyacını karşılamak için yenialanlar yerleşmeye açılmış ve bu durumun sonucu olarak Atakum, batı ve güney istikametindegelişme göstermiştir. Bu gelişmeler, ulaşım hizmetlerine olan talebin artmasına neden olduğuiçin şehir içi ve şehirlerarası ulaşım hizmetleri de önemli ölçüde ilerleme kaydetmiştir.Üniversitenin şehirleşmeyle ilişkileri bir bütün olarak değerlendirildiğinde, Atakum’undemografik ve mekânsal bakımdan gelişiminde Kurupelit Kampüsü’nün etkileri olduğuanlaşılmıştır.

Universities that benefited the regions and settlements in many areas are seen as animportant investment tool in addition to their education function. Ondokuz Mayıs University,it is one of the these üniversities, was established in 1975 to contributed to the development ofthe Black Sea Region. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of Kurupelit Campusthat is the main campus of The University of 19 May on Atakum's development. For thispurpose, interviews have been conducted with students and academic staff by using the surveymethod in the field. This study consists of four parts. In the introduction section, generalinformation about the purpose of the study, the hypotheses, the research method, the locationof the study site, and the literature have been given. In the first part, physical geographycharacteristics such as geology, geomorphology, climate, hydrography, and vegetation of theresearch field have been mentioned. In the second part, the population, migration, settlement,and economic characteristics of the study area have been emphasized. In the last part of thestudy,this section consists of research findings, the data obtained through questionnaires havebeen analyzed.In this study, it has been determined that the annual expenditure amount made by thepeople within the university in Atakum was approximately 383.393.359 TL. This valueincluded the fall and spring periods of 2019-2020 when the research was conducted. On theother hand, in the specified periods, a total of 5,417 people were employed thanks to thecampus. These numbers in spending and employment reveal that the university is an importantinstitution for Atakum. The fact that Samsun city could not develop towards the east and southdirections due to its topographic structure enabled the settlement area to develop towards thewest direction of the city. This situation has been one of the factors that led to the rapid increaseof Atakum population. Students coming from Samsun and other provinces of Turkey toOndokuz Mayıs University for educational purposes, have had an important effect on thispopulation increase. Student population has also affected the demographic characteristics ofAtakum. As a matter of fact, a total of 30,316 people come to Atakum through the University.21.557 of these people are students. People who came to Atakum through immigration causedthe qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the houses to change. New areas were openedto settlement in order to meet the housing needs of these people and thus Atakum has developedin the west and south direction. As these developments caused an increase in the demand fortransportation services, urban and intercity transportation services have also made significantprogress. When the relationship of the university with urbanization is evaluated as a whole, itis understood that Kurupelit Campus has effects on the demographic and spatial developmentof Atakum.
