Abstract
KÜRESEL ŞEHİR KAVRAMI VE İSTANBUL’UN KÜRESEL ŞEHİRLER ARASINDAKİ YERİ Ekonomik, politik, teknolojik, iletişim, sosyal, kültürel ve daha birçok alanda günümüzün hızlı değişimlerine sebep olan küreselleşme süreci kendi içinde dinamik yapısını devam ettirirken aynı zamanda çağımızın şehirlerini de derinden bir şekilde etkilemektedir. Küreselleşmenin şehirlerde giderek daha fazla görünen yüzü, şehir formlarında değişimlere sebep olmuş, bu değişimler ve şehirlerin karşılıklı artan ilişkileri neticesinde oluşan ağlar, küresel sistemin içerisinde küresel şehirleri ortaya çıkarmıştır. Küresel şehirler, önceleri yalnızca ekonominin, özellikle uluslararası firmalar üzerinden küresel sistem içerisinde kontrol edildiği ve yönlendirildiği merkezler olarak tanımlanmış olsa da günümüzde bu değerlendirmeler de değişime uğrayarak küresel şehir sınıflandırmalarında yeni kıstaslar ve göstergeler aranmaya başlanmıştır. Giderek artan küresel şehir sınıflandırmaları bizlere bunu göstermektedir. Farklılaşan ve çoğalan bu küresel şehir sınıflandırmaları içerisinde İstanbul’un yerinin daha da belirgenleştiği görülmektedir. İstanbul’un geçmişten bugüne hem bölgesinde hem global ölçekte sahip olduğu potansiyeli, kendisine küresel şehir sınıflandırmalarında önemli yerler elde etmesini sağlamıştır.
THE CONCEPT OF GLOBAL CITY AND ISTANBUL’S POSITION AMONG GLOBAL CITIES Process of globalization caused many changes in economic, political, technological, communicative, social, cultural and many other areas. On the other hand it deeply affects cities of our time while maintaining its dynamic nature. The visible face of globalization consists of change which creates new life styles in global cities designed by international network which connected with international system. At the beginning of the globalization, global cities defined as a centre for managing and steering the economy with the hands of global corporations. But nowadays, global city classifications have been changed with the search of new criteria and indicators. Current global city classifications proved that being a global city is not just about to be an important node in the global economic system. When we think Istanbul’s place with these criterias and indicators, we may say scores it’s position day by day. Regional and international potential of Istanbul provided an important role to itself in the global city classifications from the past to the present.
