Abstract
Ibn Nubata al-Misri is one of the prominent Muslim scholars who was active during the Mamluk period. He started to be interested in Andalusian literature at a young age and in the later stages of his life, he penned several works related to this literature. In his work entitled Sarh al-‘uyûn, the main text of this thesis, Ibn Nubata comments on a risalah (booklet) written by Ibn Zaydun in hazliyya style. The word hazliyya is derived from the root hazl which means quip and clever joke. In this style of writing, the author discusses serious and important issues with a mocking tone. Ibn Zaydun wrote this Risalah in a mocking style as if he was narrating on behalf of Vallâda in response to another risalah written by vizier Abu ‘Âmir b. ‘Abdus addressed to his girlfriend Vallada. The commentary in question is not only about explaining this risalah but it has also an encyclopedic characteristic as it contains a great deal of information about literature, history, philosophy, chemistry, astrology, medicine and various other disciplines.
