Şizofreni hastalarının beyin dokularında α7 nikotinik asetilkolin reseptör(nAChR) ekspresyonunda azalma ve bu reseptörü kodlayan genlerde polimorfizmgösterilmesi üzerine bu reseptörler şizofreni tedavisi için hedef haline gelmiştir.
