Abstract
Hollywood, yüzlerce yıldır batı tarafından sistematik bir şekilde sürdürülen oryantalizmin günümüzdeki en büyük temsilcisi olmuştur. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nin uluslararası politikalarıyla bağlantılı olarak hareket eden Hollywood, günümüzün en büyük güç kaynaklarından biridir. Nitekim Hollywood sinemasının örtük veya açık mesajlarla dolu olan yapımları; diğer toplumların kültürlerini, fikirlerini, sosyal hayatlarını, ekonomilerini ve hatta inançlarını dahi doğrudan etkilemekte ve yönlendirmektedir. Hollywood sinemasınının uyguladığı elektronik kolonyalizmi ele alan bu çalışmada, 11 Eylül 2001 sonrası oluşturulan “Terörist Doğu” sunumun incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında oryantalizmin yüzlerce yıllık gelişim süreci, sinemanın icadından günümüze kadar olan süreci ve 11 Eylül terör saldırılarından sonra yeni oryantalist akımın geldiği nokta incelenmiştir. Edward Said’in “Oryantalizm” eserinin temel olarak alındığı bu çalışmada, Hollywood sinemasının 21.yüzyılda beyaz perdeye aktardığı çok sayıda oryantalist film incelenmiş; The Kingdom (Krallık) filmi Teun Van Dijk’in söylem analizi ile ayrı bir başlıkta incelenmiştir.
Hollywood has been the biggest representative of orientalism systematically sustained by the West for centuries. Hollywood that moves connected with the international policies of the USA is one of the largest power sources in today's world. Such that Hollywood cinematic productions filled with hidden or open messages can directly affect or direct cultures, ideas, social lives, economies and even beliefs of other societies. In this study that analysis electronic colonialism performed by the Hollywood cinema aims to analyse “Terrorist East” presentation that was created after 11 September 2001. Within the scope of this study, the development process of orientalism for centuries, the process from the invention of the cinema until today and the latest point of the new orientalist trend after 9/ 11 terrorist attacks are investigated. This study is based on the “Orientalism” work of Edward Said and analysed numerous orientalist movies in the 21st century reflected the screen by the Hollywood cinema and The Kingdom movie by Teun Van Dijk is analysed under a separate title with discourse analysis.
