Fonksiyon Kavramının Çoklu Temsillerinin Çağrıştırdığı Kavram Görüntüleri

Abstract

Bu çalışma matematiğin önemli kavramlarından fonksiyon kavramımn çoklu temsilIerinin (küme eşlemesi diyagramı, sıralı ikililer kümesi, grafık ve cebirsel formül) öğrencilerin zihninde çağrıştırdığı kavram görüntülerini inceler. Çoklu temsillerin oluşturduğu kavram görüntüleri oynadıkları prototip ve örneklem rolleri açısından irdelenmiştir. Çalışmamn örneklemini 9 lise 3 öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Bu 9 öğrenci, 114 lise 3 öğrencisine dağıtılan anketlerin sonuçlarına göre teorik örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilmiştir. Temelolarak nitel olan bu çal,şmamn verileri bu 9 lise 3 öğrencisi ile yapılan yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilmiştir. Görüşmelerde öğrencilerden çeşitli temsilIerin fonksiyon olup olmadığı hakkında yüksek sesle düşünmeleri istenmiştir. Görüşmelerin çözümlemeleri göstermiştir ki küme eşlemesi diyagrarnı prototip rolü oynayarak tanımsal özelliklere daha yakın kavram görüntüleri çağrıştırmıştır. Grafık ve cebirsel temsilIer ise tanımdan ziyade özel örnekleri (örneklem demetlerini) çağrıştırmıştır.

This study investigates students' concept images evoked from multiple representationsoffunctions such as set correspondence diagrams, sets of ordered pairs, graphs and algebraic expressions. The concept images evoked from multiple representationsare examined in terms of the roles representationsplay; as prototypes and exemplars. The sample of the study is 9 studentsin grade 11. These 9 studentswere selected among 114 grade 11 studentson the basis ofthe results from the questionnaires using theoretical sampling. This study is mainly qualitative and the main data is obtained from the semi-structured interviews with the 9 students. In these interviews, students were asked to decide whether the given representations are functions or not. The analysis of the interview protocols indicatedthat the set correspondence diagram played the role of a prototype and evoked concept images which included the defıning properties of function. On the other hand, graphical and algebraic representationsevoked exemplar-based concept images rather than the defınition.
