Abstract

Enerji, ekonomik, sosyal, teknolojik ve çevresel koşullarda kilit bir rol oynamaktadır. Fosil yakıtlar, enerji gereksinimini büyük ölçüde karşılamak için tercih edilen kaynaklar arasında bulunmaktadır. Ancak, fosil yakıt rezervleri sınırlıdır ve dengesiz bir biçimde dağılmıştır. Ayrıca, bu yakıtlar ekolojik dengeyi tehdit etmektedir. Bu nedenle, alternatif enerji kaynaklarının kullanımı kaçınılmaz bir gereklilik haline gelmektedir. Toplumun hızla artan enerji talebini güvenilir, kesintisiz ve sağlıklı bir şekilde karşılamak için yenilenebilir enerji öncelik kazanmıştır. Teknolojik yeniliklerin gelişmesi sayesinde, yenilenebilir enerji kullanılarak verimli, maliyet açısından uygun ve sürekli bir üretim gerçekleştirilebilmektedir. Bununla beraber, yenilenebilir enerjinin makroekonomik göstergelere üzerindeki etkisi konusunda çeşitli bakış açıları mevcuttur. Bu doğrultusunda yenilenebilir enerji makroekonomik ölçekte etkin olabilir ve bu etkinliğin araştırılması ve analiz edilmesi sürdürülebilir kalkınmada ve ekonomik büyümede önemli yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada OECD ülkelerin 1995-2022 dönemi için Panel Veri Analizi yardımıyla yenilenebilir enerji tüketimi ile karbon emisyonu, kişi başına düşen gelir, istihdam, ihracat, ithalat ve sabit sermaye oluşumu (yurt içi yatırımlar) üzerindeki etkileri incelenecektir. Bu amaca ulaşabilmek için tez toplamda beş bölümden oluşturulmuştur. İlk bölümü olan giriş bölümünde çalışmanın amacından ve öneminden bahsedilecektir. İkinci bölümde ise konuyu daha iyi anlayabilmek için çok kısa enerji kavramına ve kaynaklarına değinilecektir. Ardından OECD ülkelerindeki yenilenebilir enerji politikasına ve yenilenebilir enerji durumuna bakılıp yenilenebilir enerji ile makroekonomik göstergeler ile ilgili ilişkilerin teorik kısmına bakılmıştır. Bir sonraki bölümde literatür taraması yapılacaktır. Bu bölümde yenilenebilir enerjinin makroekonomik göstergelerle ilişkilerini inceleyen çalışmalarına değinilecektir. Dördüncü bölüm ise ampirik çerçeveden ve analiz kısmından oluşmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın son bölümü sonuç ve değerlendirmeler için ayırt edilmiştir.Energy plays a pivotal role in economic, social, technological, and environmental conditions. Fossil fuels remain predominant in meeting global energy needs; however, their reserves are finite and unequally distributed, posing ecological threats. Therefore, the adoption of alternative energy sources has become imperative. Addressing society's escalating energy demands reliably and sustainably necessitates prioritizing renewable energy. Technological advancements enable efficient, cost-effective, and continuousrenewable energy production. Nevertheless, there are divergent perspectives on how renewable energy impacts macroeconomic indicators. Understanding and analyzing this impact is essential for fostering sustainable development and economic growth.The resarch aims to analize the effects of renewable energy consumption on carbon emissions, per capita income, employment, exports, imports, and fixed capital formation (domestic investments) for OECD countries for the period 1995-2022, using Panel Data Analysis. To achieve this goal, the thesis is structured into five chapters. The introductory section outlines the study's purpose and significance. It sets the stage by providing context and rationale for investigating these relationships. The second section provides a brief overview of energy and its sources, aiming to enhance comprehension of the subject matter. Following this, the third section reviews the current policies and status of renewable energy adoption within OECD countries. It also delves into theoretical frameworks concerning the interrelationships between renewable energy utilization and various macroeconomic indicators. The fourth chapter consists of a comprehensive literature review, examining existing studies that explore the connections between renewable energy deployment and macroeconomic outcomes.Lastly, the empirical framework and analysis are presented in the fifth chapter, where Panel Data Analysis techniques are applied to investigate the hypothesized relationships. The concluding chapter synthesizes findings from the empirical analysis and literature review, offering insights, implications, and recommendations based on the study's outcomes.
