Abstract
Bu tezde esas olarak XIX. yüzyıl Osmanlı Karadenizi’nde küçük bir sahil kasabasından modern bir ticaret merkezine dönüşen Samsun şehrinin yaşadığı değişim ele alınmıştır. Değişimin boyutları ile Samsun’un Osmanlı sosyo-ekonomik yapısındaki yerini anlamak için XIX. yüzyıl boyunca kentin coğrafi, idari ve demografik yapısı incelenmiştir. Ticaret merkezine dönüşen kentin, iktisadi hayatındaki vazgeçilmez unsurlarından biri olarak meslek grupları tespit edilip, tasnif edilmiştir. Yüzyıl boyunca Samsun ekonomisi, meslek dalları ve iş yeri sahipleri yani esnafın değişimi üzerinden incelenip kentin esnaf ve tüccar profilini ortaya konulmuştur. Kentin ticari hayatında kendine mahsus özellikleri ve sistemdeki yerleri ile bir sosyal grup olarak esnaf topluluğu irdelenmiştir. Bu çalışma ticareti etkileyen faktörler Samsun kenti özelinde incelenip, Samsun’daki han, bedesten, çarşı, fabrika, pazar, panayır gibi ticari yapı, kurum ve organizasyonları ele almıştır.
This thesis deals mainly with the change that Samsun experienced as a small seaside town at the 19th century Ottoman Black Sea and turned into a modern commercial centre. It investigates the geographic, administrative and demographic structure of Samsun during the 19th century to understand dimensions of the change and place of the town at the socio-economic structure of Ottoman Empire. As an indispensible component of financial life for the town that turned into a commercial centre; professional groups were firstly indentified and then classified. Finance of Samsun was surveyed through the change of professional groups and shop owners namely tradesmen and the profile of tradesmen and merchants of the town was introduced. Community of tradesmen was inquired as a social group with its unique qualifications at financial life of the town and its place into the system. In this study we investigate the factors that affect the trade particularly for Samsun and deal with commercial structures, institutions and organizations like khan/ inn, bazaar, market, factory and fair at Samsun.
