YABANCI DİL DERSLERİNDE ANA DİLİ KULLANIMI ÜZERİNE ÖĞRETMEN VE ÖĞRENCİ GÖRÜŞLERİ

Abstract

Araştırmamızın amacı, yabancı dil derslerinde ana dili kullanımı üzerine öğretmen ve öğrenci görüşlerine ulaşmak ve yabancı dil öğretiminde ana dilin rolünü saptamaktır. Bu çalışmada, nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmış olup Marmara Üniversitesi'nin farklı Fakültelerinin dil bölümlerinde görev yapan, yabancı dil olarak sadece Fransızca öğreten ve ana dili Türkçe olan 10 öğretim elemanına 5 sorudan oluşan bir görüşme formu 2012-2013 eğitim/öğretim yılında uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışma yapılırken, ana dili Fransızca olan öğretim elemanları araştırma dışı bırakılmıştır. Ayrıca, Marmara Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Fransızca Öğretmenliği Anabilim dalında okuyan 1, 2, 3 ve 4. sınıf öğrencilerinden 20'sinin katıldığı çalışma grubuna da 5 soru sorulmuştur. Bu sorulardan sadece ilki, öğrenciden kesin bir cevap almayı hedeflediğimizden çoktan seçmelidir. Diğer soru tipleri açık uçlu formattadır. Ayrıca en sonuncu soru ise, araştırmaya biraz daha derinlik katmak ve katılımcılardan daha detaylı cevaplar alabilmek açısından 4 alt başlığa bölünmüştür. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler, betimsel analiz yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Böylece, cevaplar sınıflandırılmış ve yorumlanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular frekans dağılımları ve doğrudan alıntılarıyla birlikte belirtilmiştir. Sonuç olarak öğretmenlere ve öğrencilere uygulanan bu görüşme formlarından elde edilen verilere göre, yabancı dil öğretimi ve öğreniminde ana dili kullanımının önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğu gözlenmiş ve bu süreçte iki dil arasında bir denge kurabilmek için önerilerde bulunulmuştur

The aim of our research is to reach the views of teachers and students on the use of native language in foreign language courses and to determine the role of mother tongue in foreign language teaching . In this study, the qualitative research method has been used and the form of an interview consisting of 5 questions was applied to 10 faculty members who work in language departments of different faculties of Marmara University in 2012-2013academic year, teach only French as a foreign language and whose mother tongue is Turkish. During the study, faculty members whose mother tongue is French is excluded from the research. In addition, 5 questions were asked to working group consisting of 20 students who study in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades in department of Teacher Training in French of Faculty of Education at Marmara University. Only the first of these questions is multiple choice trough which we aim to get a clear answer from the students. Other questions are open-ended. In addition, the last question is divided to four sub-headings on the purpose of adding a bit more depth to the survey and getting more detailed answers from the participants. The results obtained from the study were examined by using descriptive analysis. Thus, the answers obtained from the study group were classified and reviewed.The findings obtained were indicated with the frequency distribution and direct citations. As a result of the according to the data obtained from the interviews applied to faculty members and students, it was observed that the use of native language has a significant impact in teaching and learning a foreign language and several proposals were suggested in order to establish a relation between two languages in this process
