“Yolunuz Açık Olsun Bonnie ve Clyde!”: Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde büyük buhran yılları ve suçluların idolleştirilmesi

Abstract

1920’li yıllar, ABD ekonomisinin şahlandığı bir dönem olur. “Kükreyen yirmiler”de ekonomik büyümenin yarattığı tüketim çılgınlığı bir trajedi ile sonuçlanır. “Kara Perşembe” olarak da bilinen 24 Ekim 1929 günü New York Borsası’nda hisse senetlerinin değerinin dramatik düşüşüyle başlayan ekonomik kriz kısa sürede ABD’yi etkisi altına alır. Tüm dünyaya yayılan 1929 Ekonomik Krizi (Büyük Buhran), kapitalist sistemin en büyük krizlerinden birine dönüşür. Franklin D. Roosevelt’in (1882-1945) New Deal politikalarına rağmen krizin etkisi yaklaşık on yıl sürer. Buhran yıllarında sahneye çıkan Bonnie Parker (1910-1934) ve Clyde Barrow (1909-1934), bir soygun ve cinayet serisinin aktörleri hâline gelir. Bu çalışmada, gerçek hikâyeye dayanan Bonnie and Clyde (1967) ile The Highwayman (2019) filmleri niteliksel bir perspektifle amaçlı örneklem kapsamında seçilmiştir. Doküman olarak incelenen bu filmler aracılığıyla ABD’de Büyük Buhran’ın yarattığı psikolojinin suçluların idolleştirilmesindeki etkilerinin tartışılması amaçlanmıştır. Hukuk ve adalet kavramlarının ciddi bir erozyona uğradığı bu dönemde basının da katkısıyla suçluların idolleştirilmesi sisteme yönelik bir protestoya dönüşmüştür......................The 1920s become a period in which the USA economy raged. The consumption frenzy of economic growth in “the roaring twenties” results in a tragedy. The economic crisis, which started with the dramatic decline in the value of stocks in New York Stock Exchange on October 24, 1929, also known as “Black Thursday”, soon takes the USA under its influence. The 1929 Economic Crisis (The Great Depression), which spread all over the world, turns into one of the biggest crises of the capitalist system. Despite the New Deal policies of Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945), the impact of the crisis lasts for about ten years. Taking the stage in the Depression years, Bonnie Parker (1910-1934) and Clyde Barrow (1909-1934) become actors in a series of robberies and murders. In this study, Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and The Highwayman (2019) films based on the true story were selected as a purposeful sample with a qualitative perspective. It is aimed to discuss the effects of the psychology created by the Great Depression in the USA on the idolizing criminals through these films, which are examined as documents. Idolizing criminals with the contribution of the press has turned into a protest against the system in this period when the concepts of law and justice suffered serious erosion.
