Coğrafi bilginin meydan muharebelerindeki rolü : Sakarya meydan muharebesi örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışma, coğrafya eğitiminin önemini coğrafi faktörlerin muharebe meydanındaki rolü üzerinden açığa çıkarmayı ve muharebe sahalarını ders materyali olarak sunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Sakarya Meydan Muharebesi nitel araştırma yöntemleri kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Verilerin elde edilmesinde doküman incelemesi ve muharebe meydanı inceleme gezisi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel ve içerik analizi yöntemleri ile analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları bulgular bölümünde temalara ayrılarak sunulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler neticesinde Sakarya Meydan Muharebesi'nde coğrafi faktörlerin kuvvet çarpanı olmaktan öteye geçtiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Muharebe sahasındaki coğrafi faktörlerin kullanımı için öncelikle bu faktörlerin bilinmesi gerekmektedir. Bölgeye özel olarak hazırlanan haritalar bu konuda oldukça önemli bir destek oluşturmuştur. Sahadaki coğrafi faktörlerin bilgisine sahip olan ve bu faktörleri ordusundaki kuvvetleri yönettiği gibi yönetebilen komutan zafere ulaşmaktadır. Türk İstiklal Harbi sonuçları itibari ile sadece savaşan tarafların milletlerini etkilememiştir. Esaret altında bulunan diğer milletlere de örnek oluşturmuştur. Bu nedenle Sakarya Zaferi, Dünya tarihi için de bir mihenk taşıdır. Önemi bu kadar büyük olan Sakarya Meydan Muharebesi'nin zafere dönüşmesinde coğrafyanın rolü ise oldukça büyük olmasına rağmen günümüzde coğrafya eğitimine yeterince önem verilmemektedir. Coğrafi bilgi ve becerilerin kalıcı hale gelmesi için coğrafya dersi çerçevesinde daha çok arazi incelemesi gerçekleştirilmelidir. Ancak halihazırda uygulanan öğretim bunun için uygun değildir. Bu amaca ulaşacak şekilde öğretim programında gerekli değişiklikler yapılmalıdır.

This study aims to reveal the importance of geography education through the role of geographical factors on the battlefield and to present battlefield sites as course material. In line with this objective, the Sakarya Field Battle has been examined using qualitative research methods. Document analysis and battlefield site visits were used to obtain data. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis methods. The analysis results are presented by dividing them into themes in the findings section. As a result of the obtained data, it was concluded that geographical factors in the Sakarya Field Battle went beyond being just a force multiplier. To use geographical factors on the battlefield, it is essential to first have knowledge of these factors. Maps prepared specifically for the region have been a significant support in this regard. A commander who has knowledge of the geographical factors in the field and can manage these factors in directing the forces in their army achieves victory. The results of the Turkish War of Independence did not only affect the nations of the warring parties but also set an example for other nations under occupation. Therefore, the Sakarya Victory is a milestone in world history. Despite the significant role geography played in the success of the Sakarya Field Battle, geography education is not given enough importance today. More field studies should be conducted within the framework of geography lessons for geographic knowledge and skills to become permanent. However, the current curriculum is not suitable for this purpose. Necessary changes should be made in the curriculum to achieve this goal.
