Determination of Organotin Compounds in Marine Sediment by LiquidChromatography/ Mass SpectrometryName of the Student: Nihan KöseSupervisor: Prof. Dr. Türkan YurdunDepartment: Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology2. ABSTRACTPurpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the organotin (OT) compounds in thesediment samples taken from Tuzla marine by Liquid Chromatography/ MassSpectrometry (LC-MS/ MS) and to obtain comprehensive data on the sediment qualityand pollution distribution of OT compounds.Material and Methods: Sediment samples were collected from 29 similar points inTuzla marine and the OT compounds were analyzed by LC-MS/ MS.Results: As a result of the data obtained in our study, no statistically significantdifference was found between physicochemical parameters measured in sedimentsamples representing the Tuzla marine and butyltins (MBT, DBT, TBT). In sedimentsamples, TBT is found in the range of 0,34-10,83 μg/ g. The highest values are TZ-16;22; 24; 26, and 28 points 9,54; 7,60; 3.91; 10,83, and 2,34 μg/ g respectively. It isobserved that MBT is in the range of 0.07-5.59 μg/ g, DBT in the range of 0,04-5,36μg/ g. While TPrT, MPhT and TPhT were found trace, DPhT was not detected. Conclusions: This study represents the first application with LC-MS/ MS analysis for the determination of OTs in the Tuzla marine sediments. The highest value of butyltins was found in some of the analyzed samples. Therefore, biological and chemical contamination from the degradation of the marine environment to the degradation of the ecosystem needs to be monitored.Key words: Sediment, Tributyltin, Antifouling paints, Toxicity, LCMSMS
