Özel amaçlı ingilizce öğretiminde gereksinim çözümlemesi (hava trafik terminolojisi eğitimi alan pilotlar ile alan çalışması)

Abstract

Bu çalışmayla İstanbul’daki Kara Kuvvetleri Lisan Okulu’nda Hava Trafik Terminolojisi ve Frezyolojisi kursu gören pilotların İngilizce gereksinimlerinin çözümlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereksinimlerin saptanması için 45 pilot kursiyer ve dört

öğretmeninden kaynak olarak yararlanılmıştır. Kursiyerler ve öğretmenlerden elde edilen bilgiye ek olarak, ayrıca kursta kullanılan ders malzemeleri ve etkinlikler araştırmacı tarafından gözden geçirilmiştir. Kursiyerler araştırma için 90 madde olarak yapılandırılmış bir anketi yanıtlamışlardır. Anket, daha önce M. Cemal EKİNCİ (1995) tarafından Bilkent Üniversitesi’nde ve Remzi ALBAYRAK (2003) tarafından İstanbul Üniversitesi’nde yapılan çalışmalara dayanılarak geliştirilmiştir. Ayrıca, Kara Kuvvetleri Lisan Okulu’ndaki İngilizce öğretmenlerine de aynı anketi verilerek, öğretmenlerden kursla ilgili beklentilerini ve önerilerini belirtmeleri de istenmiştir. Toplanan veriler çözümlenerek araştırmada belirtilen sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgulara dayanılarak, Hava Trafik Terminolojisi ve Frezyolojisi kursunun uçuş eğitiminin bir parçası olarak verilmesi gerektiği önerilmiştir. ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate English language needs of Turkish Army pilots who take Air Traffic Terminology and Phraseology course at the Army Language School, Istanbul. 45 pilot trainees and four English Language teachers were employed as informants in order to specify the needs. In addition to the information gathered from the trainees and teachers, the materials and activities employed for this course are examined by the researcher. For the research, the trainees responded to a 90-item structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was developed basing on the previous needs assessment studies done by M. Cemal EKİNCİ (1995) at Bilkent University, and Remzi ALBAYRAK (2003) at Istanbul University. Besides, the English language teachers at the Army Language School are asked to answer the same questionnaire and to express their expectations on and suggestions for this course. Then, the collected data were analyzed and in the study described results were reached. Based upon the findings of the research, it is recommended that to give the Air Traffic Terminology and Phraseology course as part of the flight training.
