Abstract

Sonoembryology offers tremendous possibilities for enhancing our understanding of normal and abnormal early human development. We should combine clinical findings with ultrasound in early pregnancy to get best results in the management of the early gestational weeks. Ultrasound scanning especially transvaginal scanning has given us new insights into both normal and abnormal gestations starting from very early gestation. We should ensure that the gestational sac visualized is within the endometrium and surrounded by myometrium not to misdiagnose ectopic pregnancy like abdominal or cervical. We must look carefully the adnexa to screen for ovarian pathology. Especially in women with persistent pain or bleeding and for those patients who had their conceptions through assisted reproductive techniques to exclude heterotopic pregnancy (1).
