Publication: Coğrafya Konularında Değerlerin Kazandırılmasında Örnek Olay Yönteminin İşlevi
Abstract
Türkiye’de ilköğretimde coğrafya müstakil bir ders olarak verilmektedir. Coğrafya
disipliniyle ilişkili bilgi, tutum ve değerler, ilköğretim okullarının 4.-7. Sınıflarında verilen
Sosyal Bilgiler dersi şemsiyesi altında verilmektedir. Sosyal Bilgiler dersinin içeriği sosyal
bilimlerin farklı disiplinlerine ait bilgilerin harmanlanmasıyla oluşturulmakta ve içeriğin
oluşturulmasında istifade edilen disiplinlerden biri de coğrafyadır. Sosyal Bilgiler Dersinin
coğrafya disipliniyle ilişkili olan kazanımlarında, söz konusu disipline ait temel bilgi ve
becerilerin kazandırılmasının yanında bazı değerler de öğrencilere kazandırılmaya
çalışılmaktadır. Bu kapsamda bu çalışmada, coğrafya konularıyla ilişkilendirilen değerlerin
kazandırılmasında örnek olay yönteminin nasıl kullanılabileceğini ortaya koymak
amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaca uygun olarak çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan eylem
araştırmasına göre desenlenmiştir. Bu tercihe uygun olarak önce çalışmada uygulanacak örnek
olay yazılmıştır. Bu çerçevede araştırmacılar tarafından odağını çevresel duyarlılık ve
yardımseverlik değerleri oluşturan örnek olay yazılmıştır. Daha sonra öğrencilerin örnek olayı
düşünsel, empatik ve ahlâkî boyutlarda çözümlemelerini sağlayacak sorular yazılmıştır.
Araştırmanın uygulaması 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında Ankara İli Sincan ilçesinde
bulunan bir ortaokula devam eden 8. sınıf öğrencileri ile yapılmıştır. Pandemi koşullarından
dolayı uygulama çevrim içi (online) derste gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu kapsamda örnek olay
etkinlik süreci öğretmen- öğrenci ve öğrenci- öğrenci arasında paylaşımcı ve çok yönlü bir
bakış açısıyla gerçekleşmiştir. Farklı görüş ve düşünceler konuya farklı boyut ve bakış açısı
kazandırırken aynı zamanda sınıf içi iletişimi geliştirmiştir. Tüm bu örnek olay etkinliklerinin
sonucunda öğrencilerin metinden ve sorulan sorulardan yola çıkarak örnek olayın ana teması
olan çevreye karşı duyarlılık ve yardımseverlik değerlerine ilişkin başarılı yorumlar
getirmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin, örnek olayda geçen ve gerçek hayatta da yaşanabilecek
durumlara ilişkin nitelikli çözüm önerileri üretebildikleri tespit edilmiştir. Uygulama
sonucunda, örnek olay incelemesi yönteminin değerlerin kazandırılmasında olumlu bir
işlevinin olduğu görülmüştür. Bu çerçevede örnek olay incelemesi yöntemi temelli
gerçekleştirilen değerler eğitimi uygulamasının, öğrencilerin değerleri akıl yürütme,
çıkarımda bulunma, bağlantı kurma, sorgulama, değerlendirme, empati kurma ve eleştirel
düşünme gibi becerileri kullanarak edinmelerine fırsat verdiği saptanmıştır. Örnek olayların
analiz sürecinde, öğrencilerin örnek olayı gündelik yaşamdan örnekler vererek irdeledikleri de
görülmüştür. Bu sonuçlara dayanarak araştırmada örnek olay yönteminin öğrencilerin
değerleri kazanmalarında olumlu bir işlevinin olduğunu ifade edebiliriz.
Geography is taught as a separate subject in primary education in Turkey. Knowledge, attitudes and values related to the discipline of geography is given in 4th -7 th grades of primary school classrooms under the umbrella of the Social Studies Lesson. The content of the Social Studies Lesson is formed by the blending of information from different disciplines of social sciences, and one of the disciplines used in the creation of the content is geography. In the acquisitions of the Social Studies Lesson related to the geography discipline, some values are tried to be taught to the students as well as the basic knowledge and skills of the discipline. In this study, it is aimed to reveal how the case study method can be used in gaining the values associated with geography subjects. In accordance with this purpose, the study was designed according to action research, which is one of the qualitative research methods. In this study, action research was preferred because it was aimed to reveal how the case study method could be used in gaining the values associated with geography subjects. In accordance with this preference, the case study to be applied in the study was written first. In this context, a case study was written by the researchers, whose focus is on environmental sensitivity and benevolence values. Then, questions were written to enable students to analyze the case in intellectual, empathetic and moral dimensions. The application of the research was carried out with 8th grade students attending a secondary school in Sincan, Ankara in the 2020-2021 academic year. Due to the pandemic conditions, the application was carried out via an online course. In this context, the case study activity process was realized between teacher-student and student-student with a sharing and multidimensional perspective. While different views and thoughts brought a different dimension and perspective to the subject, it also improved inclass communication. As a result of all these case studies, the students made successful comments on the values of environmental sensitivity and helpfulness, which is the main theme of the case, based on the text and the questions asked. It was determined that the students were able to produce qualified solution suggestions for situations that could be experienced in real life as well as in the case study. As a result of the application, it was seen that the case study method had a positive function in gaining values. In this context, it was determined that the values education application, which was based on the case study method, gave the students the opportunity to acquire values by using skills such as reasoning, inference, making connections, questioning, evaluation, empathy and critical thinking. In the analysis process of the case studies, it was also observed that the students examined the case by giving examples from daily life. Based on these results, we can state that the case study method has a positive function in students' acquisition of values.
