THE EFFECT OF THE COOPERATIVE ACTIONS OF SME’s, ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEIR COMPETITIVE STRATEGIES AND PERFORMANCE In the last quarter of 20th century, developing countries became important players in the World Trade. This new competitive environment compelled local SME’s to reconstruct new strategies, in order to compete more effectively with global firms in local and global markets. During the globalization period, the collaborative activities allow SMEs to survive and also to compete in the global arena by providing competitive assets which they did not possess before. In this survey, it was aimed to examine the effect of the cooperative actions of SMEs, from industries at different global competitive pressure levels in Turkey, on the relation between their strategy and performance. The strategy typology in this research model is basically akin to the model of Dawar and Frost’s typology. While global competitive pressure and transferability of competitive assets are the determinants of competitive strategies in this typology, according to the studies of Grant, the level of competitive assets is accepted as another determinant in this study. First of all, the relation between global competitive pressure, the level of competitive assets, transferability of competitive assets, competitive strategies and performance was analyzed respectively by using t-test, regression model, correlation and Anova tests. After that, the effect of cooperation on the relation between competitive strategy and performance was analyzed by using two way Anova test. As a result of the analyses, the effect of cooperation on the strategy and performance was only found for product quality and market share performance indicators.
