Publication: Görsel tasarımda mekân kullanımı : tek mekânlık filmler ve mekân düzenlemesi
Abstract
The history of cinema is full of films that was shooted entirely or almost entirely in single location. In fact, some of these films are of such high quality that they can easily be positioned among the most legendary and productions in the history of cinema. The design of the cinematic space, which is the subject of the study, along with the details of single-space films are discussed. It started with the theater play (Huis Clos, 1944) by Jean Paul Sartre, which was accepted as the first “single location” example in 1944. When the history of cinema is examined, it is seen that the single location films attract attention at all times when they are released, and also cause discussions in the world of literature and cinema. On the basis of this discussion, the changes seen in the subjects such as the use of space, plot, theme and characters in the films cited came to the fore. In the literature part of the study, the creation of the space, the means of creation and the ways of use will be discussed within the scope of designing the cinematic space, and six of the US films that are close to the single space concept (between 1948 and 2020) will be examined. Between the same dates, the films that were shot in five single locations that made millions of dollars at the box office despite being shot on a low budget will be examined. Then, how the adaptation took place and the narrative language of both the novel and the movie will be discussed and the differences and changes during the adaptation will be analyzed through “The Shining” film
