Abstract
Girişimcilik kavramı ve süreci, iktisat ve işletme literatüründe uzun yıllardır incelenmiş ve literatürde önemli yazarlar tarafından refah yaratmada en önemli süreç olarak ele alınmıştır. Girişimcilik, yeni süreçler ortaya çıkararak mümkün olandan daha az faydalanılan kaynakların yeni tür kullanım biçimlerine olanak tanımaktadır. Girişimcilik başarısızlığının doğasına ilişkin tartışmalarda, tıpkı dinamik ekosistemlerin yenilenmesi için ölüm kavramına ihtiyaç duymaları gibi ekonomik olmayan girişimlerin sonlanması da refahın yaratılması için elzemdir. Girişimcilik başarısızlığının ekonomi ve toplum için olumlu sonuçları olduğu ifade edilmektedir. İşlevsizleşen işletmelerden ekosisteme salınan bilgi ve kaynaklar yeni girişimlerin ortaya çıkmasına neden olmaktadır. Ayrıca, işletmelerin başarısızlıklarının, dolaylı öğrenme yoluyla hayatta kalmayı başarabilen işletmelerin maliyetlerinde bir azalma meydana getirdiği gözlemlenmektedir. Girişimcilik başarısızlığı makro-ekonomik anlamda belirtilen etkileri gösterirken, girişimci bağlamında ise hem öğrenmeye yol açan bir faktör olarak ortaya çıkabilir hem de öğrenmenin önüne set çeken duygusal ve travmatik bir durum olarak şekillenebilmektedir. Bu çalışma, girişimcilik başarısızlığının hem girişimcilik ekosistemi yönünden hem de girişimci yönünden başarısızlık nedenlerini ve girişimciler açısından da potansiyel sonuçlarını ele almayı amaçlamaktadır. Dünya’da son 30 yılda daha detaylı incelenmeye başlanan girişimcilik başarısızlığı kavramının Türkiye bağlamında yeteri kadar ele alınmadığı görülmektedir. Bu potansiyel eksiklikten hareketle, çalışmanın Türkiye’de girişimcilik başarısızlığı literatürüne katkı yapması amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmanın temel araştırma soruları; “Girişimlerin başarısız olmalarının nedenleri nelerdir ve hangi değişkenlerden etkilenmektedirler?” ve “Girişimcilik başarısızlığının girişimci açısından sonuçları nelerdir?” olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışma, yarı-yapılandırılmış mülakat yöntemiyle farklı sektörlerden, hayatlarının bir noktasında girişimcilik faaliyetinde bulunmuş ve çeşitli nedenlerle girişimlerini sonlandıran girişimcilerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın örneklemine dahil olan girişimciler portföy yatırımcıları hariç doğrudan yatırım yapan girişimciler arasından seçilmiştir.
Entrepreneurial process has been studied by significant scholars in business and economics literature and considered as the most important process for wealth creation. While the ramifications of entrepreneurship for an economy and society have been analysed for so long time, there are relatively fewer studies regarding the causes and the consequences of entrepreneurial failure. In the essence of entrepreneurial failure discussions, business failure is good for the economy and society overall due to the release of knowledge and resources from defunct business. While entrepreneurial failure may lead the consequences stated above in macroeconomic regard, in the context of entreprenur it may lead both a learning oppurtunity and an emotional and traumatic experience that obstructs learning. This study aims to analyse the causes of entrepreneurial failure both from the point of entrepreneurship ecosystem and entrepreneur and also the consequences of entrepreneurial failure from the entrepreneur’s perspective. In literature, we can clearly see that the entrepreneurial failure notion in Türkiye context has not yet studied that much. Thus, this scientific gap in Türkiye context is aimed to contributed via this study. The main research questions of this study are “What are the causes of entrepreneurial failure and which factors lead to it?” and “What are the consequences of entrepreneurial failure from the point of entrepreneur?”. This study has been performed with the participation of the entreprenurs (excluding portfolio ventures) from different industries who once started a venture and failed for several reasons and the data collecting method is semi-structured interview method.
