COVID-19 pandemisinde uzaktan eğitimin odak grup görüşmeleri ile nitel olarak değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Giriş: Bu çalışmanın amacı, COVID-19 pandemisinde diş hekimliği öğrencileriyle odak grup görüşmeleri aracılığıyla Uzaktan Eğitimin (UE) performansını değerlendirmektir.Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu kesitsel çalışmada, her sınıftan rastgele seçilen 10 öğrencinin katılımı ile toplam 50 öğrenci ile 5 adet online odak grup görüşmesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. UE’de bilişsel yük, UE’in avantajları ve dezavantajları hakkında sorular sorulmuştur.Bulgular: Yüksek düzeyde bilişsel yükün başlıca nedenleri, öğrenme motivasyonu ve mesleki özgüvenin azalması, kaygı düzeyinin artması, ders içeriğini anlamada güçlükler ve teorik bilgiyi klinik uygulama ile ilişkilendirme becerisinin eksikliğidir. UE’in dezavantajları, öğrenci, öğretim üyesi ve ders içeriği etkileşiminin yetersizliği olarak belirtilmiştir. Öğrencilere not verilmesindeki sorunların yanı sıra, internet bağlantısı ve eğitim platformuna erişim sorunları da bildirilmiştir. Ders içeriğine tekrar erişim imkanı, rahat öğrenme ortamı ve derse herhangi bir yerden erişim esnekliğinin olması başlıca avantajlardır.Sonuç: Diş hekimliği eğitiminde teknolojinin kullanımında öğrencilerin bakış açısı önemlidir. UE’in bilişsel yük ve diğer dezavantajlarını içeren sınırlılıklarının yanı sıra avantajları dikkate alınmalıdır.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the performance of Distance Learning (DL) via focus-group discussions with dental students in the COVID-19 pandemic.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, qualitative data were collected by focus-groups discussions. Ten students in each grade were randomly selected. Five online meetings were performed with fifty students. Questions were asked about cognitive load, advantages, and disadvantage of DL.Results: Decrease in the learning motivation and professional confidence, increase in anxiety level, and difficulties in understanding the course content, and inability to relate theoretical knowledge with practice were main reasons for the high cognitive load. Disadvantages of DL were associated with insufficient interactions between the student, lecturer, and course content. In addition to problems in grading students, internet connections and access to education platform were noted. The main advantages were re-accessing the course content, comfortable learning environment and the flexibility to access the course at any location.Conclusion: When implementing technology based dental education the students’ perspective is important. Both the advantages and limitations of DL including the cognitive load and other disadvantages should be taken into consideration.
