Publication: Üniversite öğrencilerinin flört şiddeti algıları ve toplumsal cinsiyet rollerini kabul düzeyleri
Abstract
Flört şiddeti, güvensiz ve sağlıksız flört ilişkilerinde ya da ilişki bittikten sonra ortaya çıkan saldırganlık şeklidir. Fiziksel, psikolojik, cinsel, sosyal, dijital, ekonomik ya da ısrarlı takip gibi alt türlere ayrılan flört şiddeti, toplumda yaygın şekilde görülen, ileri aşamalarında ölümle sonuçlanabilen fakat duygusal zemini sebebiyle tanımlanması ve mücadele edilmesi zor olan toplumsal bir problemdir. Flört şiddeti onu ortaya çıkaran dinamikler ve yarattığı etkiler sebebiyle sosyolojik, psikolojik, kültürel perspektiften incelenmesi gereken bir konu aynı zamanda bir halk sağlığı problemidir. Fakat bir üst başlık olan şiddet, uzun yıllardır pek çok farklı disiplin tarafından incelense de flört şiddeti literatüre yakın zamanda girmiş ve hala açıklanmaya ihtiyaç duyulan bir çalışma alanıdır. Bu sebeple tez çalışmasının flört şiddeti ve toplumsal cinsiyet literatürüne katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Ayrıca flört şiddetine yol açan ve onu meşrulaştıran düşüncelerin ortaya çıkarılması konu ile ilgili farkındalığı arttıracak önemli unsurlardan biridir. Tezin yazılış amaçlarından biri de bu farkındalığın oluşmasına katkı sağlamaktır. Çalışma, üniversite öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet rollerini benimseme düzeylerinin flört şiddeti algılarını ne yönde değiştirdiğini incelemektedir. Araştırma kapsamında Mayıs 2021-Ağustos 2021 tarihleri arasında yaşları 18-25 aralığında olan 20 üniversite öğrencisi ile yarı yapılandırılmış form aracılığı ile derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Görüşmeler tematik analiz yöntemiyle incelenerek bulgular ortaya çıkarılmış, elde edilen bulgular sayesinde flört şiddetini tetikleyen ve normalleştiren dinamikler toplumsal cinsiyet bağlamında sosyolojik bakış açısıyla incelenmiştir. Yapılan incelemeler sonucunda toplumsal cinsiyet rollerini kabul düzeyleri ile flört şiddetini normalleştirme oranı arasında pozitif yönde bir korelasyon olduğu görülmüş ve toplumsal bir problem olan flört şiddetini önlemeye, farkındalık düzeylerini arttırmaya yönelik neler yapılabileceği tartışılmıştır.
Dating violence is a form of aggression that occurs in unsafe and unhealthy dating relationships or after relationships ends. Dating violence, which is divided into subtypes such as physical, psychological, sexual, social, digital, economic dating violence or stalking, is a common social problem that can result in death in the advanced stages,but it is difficult to define and overcome due to its emotional basis. Due to the dynamics that reveal dating violence and the effects it creates, it is also a public health problem that should be examined from a sociological, psychological and cultural perspective. However, although violence has been studied by many different disciplines for many years, dating violence has only recently entered the literature and is still a field of study that needs to be explained. For this reason, it is thought that this thesis will contribute to the literature on dating violence and gender. In addition to this revealing the thoughts that cause and legitimize dating violence is one of the important elements that will increase awareness on the subject. One of the purposes of writing this thesis is to contribute to the formation of this awareness. The study examines how university students' levels of adopting gender roles change their perceptions of dating violence. Within the scope of the research, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 university students aged between 18-25 between May 2021 and August 2021 through a semi-structured form. The interviews were examined with thematic analysis method, and the findings revealed, the dynamics that trigger and normalize dating violence were examined from a sociological perspective in the context of gender. As a result of the examinations, it was seen that there was a positive correlation between the acceptance of gender roles and the normalization of dating violence, and it was discussed what can be done to prevent dating violence, which is a social problem, and to increase awareness levels.
