Ya‘Kubî’nin Kitabü’l-Büldan’ı ve İslam coğrafya geleneğindeki yeri

Abstract

İslâm coğrafya geleneğinin teşekkül aşamasında telif edilmiş olan el-Mesâlik ve’l-memâlik ve Büldân isimlerindeki yol ve şehir kitapları, içerdikleri coğrafî malumat gereği daha sonra yazılmış coğrafya ve tarih eserlerine kaynaklık etmiştir. Öyle ki bu çalışmalar Müslümanlar nezdinde X. yüzyıldan itibaren coğrafya alanında üretilmiş eserleri etkileyerek sistematik çalışmaların oluşmasına zemin hazırlamıştır. Ya‘kūbî’nin Kitâbü’l-Büldân adlı eseri de hem muhteva hem de daha sonraki çalışmalara tesir açısından İslâm coğrafya geleneğinde oldukça önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu tezde, Ya‘kūbî’nin Kitâbü’l-Büldân adlı eseri bağlı gösterildiği Irak merkezli ekol bağlamında incelenerek, İslâm coğrafya geleneğinin oluşum süreci ve bu süreçte Kitâbü’l-Büldân’ın yeri ele alınmıştır.

The books of road and city by names of al-Masālik wa’l-Mamālik, and Buldān, which were compiled during the phase of formation concerning the Islamic way of geography tradition, constitute the basis for the subsequent studies on the disciplines of geography and history by nature of the datum they possess. Hence, these studies, in the eyes of the Muslims, laid the groundwork for the systematic labor by exercising effect on the works that had been being produced in the field of geography dating from the 10th century A.D. on. Al-Yaʿqūbī’s work named Kitāb al-Buldān has a fundamental place concerning the Islamic tradition of geography, if one turns its rich content as well as its imprint on the works that followed to good account. In this thesis, the developmental process of the Islamic tradition of geography and the role Kitāb al-Buldān plays in due course of that period are to be considered in detail, analyzing Al-Yaʿqūbī’s Kitāb al-Buldān within the context of the Iraq-based school which it is affiliated with.
