THE NOTIFICATION OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HAZARDS OF EMERGENCY SERVICE NURSESStudent: Yasemin ÖZASLANAdvisor: Doç. Dr. Kamer GÜRDepartment: Public SafetySUMMARYPurpose: The aim of the study is to evaluate the occupational hazards of emergency service nurses in terms of occupational safety, to examine the status of notification in the workplace accident and possible problems in the provision of health services.Materials and Methods: The research was conducted between 01.09.2020-31.12.2020 with the emergency nurses of the state and private hospitals, which are located in the Anatolian Side of Istanbul. N=(1565). Reached 150 nurses selected by the stratified sampling method. Questionnaire form and ’Hastanede Çalışan Sağlık Personeli İçin İş Güvenliği Ölçeği’’ (Occupational Safety Scale for Healthcare Professional Working in Hospital) were used in the study.Findings: The average age of the nurses participating in the study is 31.76 ± 7.62, the average sleep time is 6.10 ± 1.21 hours, the average working time is 9.81 ± 7.55 years, the average working time in the last workplace is 5.13 ± 4.06 years, the average working time in the emergency department was found to be 4.85 ± 3.15 years. (Occupational Safety Scale for Hospital Healthcare Personnel) which measures the status of nurses working in the emergency department to ensure occupational safety in the hospital, was evaluated on a basis of 6 points, and the participants were found to be 2.31 ± 0.66. When the sub-dimensions are examined, the mean score of the Occupational Diseases and Complaints sub-dimension is 2.94 ± 1.04, the Health Screening and Registration Systems sub-dimension average score is 2.04 ± 0.91, the Accidents and Poisoning sub-dimension average score is 2.07 ± 0.88, Administrative Support and Approaches sub-dimension mean score 2.07 ± 0.88, Tools and Equipment Inspection sub-dimension mean score 2.72 ± 1.14, Protective Measures sub-dimension mean score 2.99 ± 1.14 and Physical Environment Convenience sub-dimension mean score was found to be 2.32 ± 0.66.Result: The average score of the nurses working in the emergency services was below the average score in both total and all sub-dimensions for occupational safety in the hospital settings. When the factors affecting employee safety are examined; Physical environment, the inadequacy of hospital meals, being on duty for 24 hours, lack of workplace health screening, insufficiency of informative posters and brochures, lack of knowledge when encountering a risk or accident, insufficient number of nurses and equipment were determined as factors affecting employee safety. It was determined that almost half of the participants had a work accident. The nurses' reporting of occupational accidents was insufficient.Employee safety, emergency nurses, occupational hazards, occupational safety
