Publication: Güreşçilerde sodyum bikarbonat yüklemesinin performans ve yorgunluk üzerine etkileri
Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the changes in performance tests and blood values of wrestling athletes due to the use of sodium bicarbonate supplements compatible with their body weights. Method: The study was conducted with 15 volunteer male wrestlers in wrestling preparation camps between December 2023 and January 2024. Before the study, the height (DESIS), body weight and composition (Tanita BC 601) of the athletes were determined, and the Turkish Wrestling Federation Nutrition and Health Evaluation Form survey, which includes general information of the athletes, was applied. In the study, resting and final blood draws and lactate measurements were taken before supplementation, and performance tests were applied. Sodium bicarbonate supplement calculated as 0.3 g per body weight was used by the wrestlers for 5 days. After the study, blood draws, lactate measurements and performance tests were repeated. Results: The average age of the athletes was determined as 18.56±0.7 years. The average body muscle mass of the athletes was 67.98 ± 7.74 kg, and the average body fat ratio was 10.5 ± 0,3%. The wrestling-specific performance test of the athletes increased significantly from the first test average of 24.46±3.04 to the final test average of 27.00±2.85 (p<0.005). The difference in fatigue blood lactate value was found to be significant (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in pH and HCO3- values in blood gas analysis (p>0.05). No significant difference was found in LDH and fingertip lactate values between the first and last measurements (p>0.05). Conclusion: The effects of 5-day supplementation of 0.3 g sodium bicarbonate per kg on fatigue in wrestlers are contradictory. It has been shown to have a positive effect on performance.
