Sait Faik ve John Steinbeck’in hikayelerinde ortak temalar

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı modern Türk hikayeciliğinin önderi konumunda olan Sait Faik (1906- 1954) ile Amerika'nın dünyaca tanınmış yazarlarından biri olan John Steinbeck'in (1902- 1968) hikayelerindeki ortak temaları işleyip aralarındaki benzerlik ve karşıtlıkları bulmaktır. Cumhuriyet Dönemi Edebiyatı hikayecilerinden olan Sait Faik alışılagelmiş hikaye kalıplarının dışına çıkarak yeni ve özgün bir tarz oluşturmuştur. İnsanı ve onun duygularını hikayelerinin ana teması olarak alan Sait Faik karakterlerini sözcüklerle oluşturduğu sevgi dolu bir dünya içinde yaşatır. Amerikan Edebiyatı'nda romantik akımın önemli uygulayıcılarından olan John Steinbeck eserlerini insan ve doğa teması üzerine oluşturur. İnsan ve doğa onun eserlerinde öylesine uyumlu bir beraberlik oluştururlar ki birini diğerinden ayırarak incelemek neredeyse mümkün değildir. Sait Faik ve John Steinbeck eserlerinde işledikleri insan, doğa, sevgi, aşk, yalnızlık, ölüm gibi evrensel temalar açısından benzerlik gösterirler. Her iki yazarın da eserlerinde oluşturdukları insan karakterleri okuyucuya tanıdık gelen, sıcak ve genellikle toplumun alt tabakasına ait kişilerdir. Sait Faik ve John Steinbeck hem seçtikleri temalar hem de onları işlemede gösterdikleri ustalık ile yalnız kendi ülkelerinde değil dünyanın bir çok ülkesinde okunan ve sevilen yazarlardır. The aim of this study is to discuss common themes and compare them in the short stories of Sait Faik (1906- 1954), the founder of modern Turkish story writing, and John Steinbeck (1902- 1968), one of the well- known American writers. Sait Faik, one of the story writers of the literature of Republican Era, forms a new and original style by getting out of traditional rules. Sait Faik, who takes human and his feelings as the main theme of his stories, makes his characters live in a world full of love created by words. John Steinbeck, one of the most important representatives of the Romantic Movement, forms his works on the themes of human and nature. Human and nature form such a harmonious unity, that it is nearly impossible to examine them by separating one from the other. Sait Faik and John Steinbeck resemble each other as they share the common universal themes in their works such as human, nature, love, loneliness, death. Human characters that both writers form in their works belong to the lowest class of the society, who have warm personalities and who are familiar to the reader. Both Sait Faik and John Steinbeck are the most loved and preferred writers not only in their own countries but also in many foreign countries, because of the themes they chose and the mastery that they have shown during their works.
