Abstract

Bu tez çalışmasında, veri ambarı ana konu olarak seçilmiş ve bir örnek uygulamanın baştan sona geliştirilmesiyle, veri ambarı konusundaki tüm uygulama geliştirme adımları açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın ilk adımında, veri ambarı konusu detaylı olarak incelenmiştir. Bu adımdaki temel çıktı, şirketlerin operasyonel sistemlerinin birbirleriyle olan ilişkilerinin çok zayıf ve şirket çapında yapılacak raporlamalar için yetersiz olduğudur. Şirket performansını izleyebilmek için tüm verileri toplayacak bir veri ambarına ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu çıktıdan yola çıkarak, örnek bir şirket seçilmiş ve şirketin raporlama sistemi incelenmiştir. İnceleme sonucunda, yönetim takımının şirket performansını değerlendirmek için operasyonel sistemlerden çıkan raporları etkin bir şekilde kullanamadığı görülmüştür. Rapor ihtiyaçları, şirket çalışanları tarafından oluşturulan manuel raporlar kullanılarak karşılanmaktadır. Çözüm olarak, bu şirkete veri ambarı kurulmasına karar verilmiştir. İlk adımda, yönetim takımıyla birlikte şirketin performans göstergeleri ve bu göstergeler için gerekli olan veriler tanımlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın devamı olarak, tesbit edilen verilerin hangi sistemlerden geldiği, sorumluları, incelenme şekilleri belirlenmiştir. Yukarıdaki çalışmanın ardından, veri ambarı sisteminin genel gereksinimleri tanımlanmıştır. Bu gereksinimler temel alınarak, veri ambarının üç temel parçası olan veri toplama, veri saklama ve veri erişimi alt sistemleri tasarlanmıştır. Çalışma, tasarımın ardından veri ambarının geliştirme ve kuruluş çalışmalarıyla devam etmiştir. Bu çalışmaların görsel bir çıktısının oluşturulması amacıyla bir örnek uygulama geliştirilmiştir.

In this study, the main subject area, data warehouse is analyzed in detail and a sample application is built from scratch to show the development steps of a typical application. In the first part of the study, the concept of data warehouse is discussed. As a major outcome, it is indicated that, the operational systems of a typical company are weakly integrated and in order to consolidate the company wide data, a data warehouse should be built. To prove this outcome, a sample company is chosen to work on the reporting structure. In this part, it is seen that the reports generating from the operational systems are not widely used by the management for tracking the company performance. As a solution to this problem, it is decided to build a data warehouse. The first step is taken with the management team and the performance indicators to be tracked and the data for these indicators are decided. As the next step, metadata information for the data elements is generated. The problems and possible solutions for them are discussed in this step. The study continues with a high level design which shows the requirements from such a system. Based on these requirements, the three components of the data warehouse - acquisition, storage and access - are designed. After the design, the study continues with the development and implementation of the components and a sample application is built beside this report.
