Abstract
Bu yönüyle Gaubert’in eserleri, incelenmeye değer nitelikler taşımaktadır.
The place of Philippe Gaubert in the flute literature and the musical analysis of his Troisième Sonate for flute and piano This thesis aims to conduct a musical and formal analysis of Troisième Sonate (No. 3), a work composed for flute and piano by Philippe Gaubert, one of the prominent figures of 19th- and 20th-century French music. The primary objective of this study is to examine the structural characteristics and technical demands of the piece in order to provide a guiding resource for flutists in their performance practice. In this context, Gaubert’s life, musical perspective, and contributions to the flute repertoire are also addressed to provide a contextual foundation for the analysis. Troisième Sonate stands out not only as a key to understanding Gaubert’s musical language but also as a representative example reflecting the stylistic and technical aesthetics of the French Flute School, which took shape in the early 20th century around the Paris Conservatoire. The artistic principles of this school were systematized through the work of distinguished musicians such as Paul Taffanel, Philippe Gaubert, and Marcel Moyse, and these principles are clearly reflected in Gaubert’s compositions. In this regard, his works offer valuable material for musical and pedagogical examination. Indeed, Troisième Sonate is currently included in the curriculum of many flute training programs and serves as an essential study piece for students aiming to develop their technical proficiency. Gaubert’s works, including this sonata, contribute not only to technical advancement but also to a deeper understanding of the foundational concepts of the French Flute School.
