Abstract
The Effect of Violence Prevention Program By Developing Social Skill On Six Age (60–72 Months Old) Children This research is a pre-post test control group quasi-experimental study which was developed for the purpose of determining the effect of child and parent program for preventing violence behaviors of children at the age of six (60-72 months old) by developing their social skills. The sample is comprised of 67 children and parents (36 experiments, 31 controls). Data was collected by using Social Skills Evaluation Scale, Monitoring Chart of Verbal and Behavioral Violence in Children, Parent Attitude Scale and Parent Interview Form. Education programs which, for experiment group children, comprised 30 activities including empathy, problem solving skills and anger management subjects, and which, for parents, comprised four sessions on subjects of features of child at the age of 60-72 months old, parent-child communication, punishment and reward methods in children, violence behavior, their causes and prevention approaches in children were performed. Findings; social skill of both experimental and control group children’s total and sub dimension score averages (experiment 137.3 from 176.4 to, conrtol 141.7 from 152.5 to) showed significant increase over time (p<0.009). While any significant difference was not determined between first measurement scores of experiment and control group children (p>0.05), significant differences were determined in favor of experiment group in all sub dimensions in the second and third measurement (p<0.05). Six-month period, the number of violent behavior fallen in the experimental group children from 234 to 34, in the control group children from 159 to 65 and between the groups difference were statistically significant (p=0.030). Parents in the experimental group stated that they started making empathy to their children, using ‘I’ language, admissing about the rules after the programme. Conclusion, this program, which is for preventing violence behavior in children by developing social skills has prevented and implementation in cooperation with the teacher-nurse can be helpful.
